Kindle Books/ ebooks

Given the way a lot of paperbacks are printed these days, eink is no worse really.

It has happened with the last 2 books I got. The first one, Myriad Universes, Echoes and Refractions was quite bad. The second one, to a lesser extent, is Mirror Universe, Obsidian Alliances.
I got both of them through Kobobooks.

I just took a look at the sample for Harbinger and it has no indents and no spaces between paragraphs. And yes, it is very difficult to read.

Can you please turn on private messages?
Sorry, I can't. I haven't been a member for two weeks yet. Only 6 days to go though.

At least I'm not crazy in regards to the no indents and paragraphs. I tried to remove it from the Kindle and redownload again in hopes that it would do something. It didn't. I guess I'm going to have to suffer through. I probably won't be buying any more Trek books this way in the future though, at least not without checking the sample first.

The vast majority of Trek books are totally fine. I've bought over 100 and I've never had that problem. I guess be sure to check the sample, but that's really weird.

I've had a problem with one of the Terok Nor eBooks and it was a bitch to get it fixed. But I managed it. And finding someone at S&S who could deal with a defective eBook is not easy. I bought it from S&S. I've not had another trek book be defective before. But I did have a different S&S eBook come with no quotes and apostrophes. This was an S&S eBook, just not a trek eBook.

Most of the Trek books I've bought for the last year (from eReader and B&N) have been missing separation at section breaks. It started around the time all the shakeups happened at Pocket. I'm assuming that, since then, they take the file for the hard copy version and directly translate that into an ebook, without adding anything for scene breaks. I've complained about it to the sellers, and they haven't done anything to fix it (though eReader did fix other problems that I had with a book), which is one of the reasons why I think it's a problem originating at the publisher.

I think it is a problem with the publisher. The book I bought at Kobo was an S&S title though not Star Trek. It was missing quotes and apostrophes. Kobo said they got it directly from the publisher. This was before Apple allowed the Agency 5 to screw things up big time.

The problem with S&S is there is no information put out there who to contact if you have a problem with any of their eBooks. I did an end run around to finally get someone via email who was able to get my money refunded because of a defective eBook I downloaded from S&S direct. If they are going to sell eBooks, they need to have a point of contact in case of problems. They don't. Now could some nice author who has a point of contact at S&S please ask for a point of contact for eBooks?

That is really frustrating because it isn't like the consumer is saving any money by buying the ebooks. The kindle versions are exactly the same price. I only tried the ebook because I live in an NYC apartment and I don't have room for all the books I have now, let alone any new ones. Too bad there is no chance that somebody else will take over the license for Trek and do it right.

As the technology gets more popular, the errors will decrease.

Exactly. That's why I'm really uninterested in arguments about Nook vs. Kindle vs. Whatever. I view them all as temporary devices right now until the next generation or two come out then I'll start paying more attention to the differences.

That said, I'm liking my Kindle even more. :) Work just upgraded my Blackberry so I'm now able to use the Kindle client on it. It's kind of cool being able to read on my Blackberry on the bus or anywhere when I don't have my Kindle. I have access to anything I've downloaded from Amazon and the page I'm on is synced up to both devices so when I get back to the Kindle I'm at my new spot.

The nook now has this ability with android phones. They just released an android application and it syncs as well.
