Kinda and Futurama S1

Mr Light

So I'm watching "Kinda" for the first time. I always thought it was pronounced as in "I'm kinda full" not "kindle".'

Anyway, the military commander who goes nuts and shouts "SILENCE!!!" every time someone talks is making me laugh my ass off  It's so over the top and ridiculous.

And it immediately made me think of one of the first Futurama episodes, "Fear of a Bot Planet". In it the Robot Elders would shout "SILENCE!!!" anytime any of the characters tried to tell them something.

Is this an intentional homage or a coincidence?

Probably a coincidence (certainly there other characters out there that yell out "SILENCE!" to get there way), but the guys who run Futurama are huge geeks so who know?

And it's not "kindle" either. It's "ken-dah."

In the UK we have small chocolate egg with capsuled toy inside (banned in the US I believe) called a Kinder Egg - said the same way.

Shouting 'Silence!' and 'Seize them!' instead of 'Shut up!' and 'Get them!' is a long running SF cliche.
