Actress Kim Novak is, to put it mildy, unhappy with the use of about 6 minutes of the legendary composer's score for Hitchcock's Vertigo in the new silent film, The Artist.

I think this woman has way too much time on her hands.

Like your title? Because saying her body of work is being violated does not equal claiming Bernard Herrmann was raped.

Or for Herrmann's Vertigo love theme itself being a ripoff of Wagner's Tristan und Isolde.

I copied the thread title from a thread on the same topic over on the Classic Horror Film Board. Okay, so maybe it's the essence of what Kim Novak is asserting, if not the letter.

She was one member of a large production company that made a movie. She didn't write or play the music on the score, which was done after her work had been completed. And Hermann is credited in the credits for the music...as such, the proper fee's and permissions were granted.

The Artist is a wonderful movie, I've seen it multiple times and will be seeing it again this weekend. Rather than shrieking out of obscurity to bitch and moan, she should've praised the film and nicely pointed out that that music was also written for an earlier Hollywood classic.

Seriously, The Artist is a love letter to classic movies, and it's a great film. Novak would've looked alot less crazy and bitter.
