Kim Cattrall foreshadowing

So I’m watching YouTube “b movie” reviewer Brandon Tenold review “Split Second”, a bad horror/space/dystopian monster movie, which co stars Kim Cattrall… and he mentions that her hair in this movie is essentially the same that she replicated later in Star Trek.

Holy cow! He’s right! (Plenty of images on IMDb ).

Am I trying to connect too many dots? Just a coincidence or did she think that look was suitably “futuristic “ and repeated it?

By the way, Brandon is quite funny…should you be interested in some Canadian humor.

Looking it up, Split Second filmed from June 17 to August 9 of 1991, while TUC filmed from April 16 to September 22 of that year, encompassing the entirety of Split Second's shooting. The article doesn't break down TUC's shooting schedule, but it's entirely possible Cattrall performed for TUC on both sides of it, so, yes, she'd have to have the same haircut.
 
Either way, the appearance of the character in the film is up to the costuming/makeup/hair people and the director's OK. This could cause issues if one production requires a particular look but the other one requires a different look. These days they can do stuff like trying to CGI out somebody's mustache if they're playing a scruffy villain in one movie but a clean-shaven superhero in another... with questionable results.

Also, wigs get used a lot more than people think. An actor doesn't even have to be there when their elaborate "do" is being reset for the day.

I've done some digging, and I make no claim to facts, but it seems like ST6's actual shooting schedule encompassed only April to July*. Perhaps September was the end of production, not the end of filming?

*Filming on the sets apparently had to be completed by the time TNG was back on set. Redemption Part One started filming July 8th.
*Nicholas Meyer says they shot for fifty-five days.
I told them it would take fifty-five days. They said, “You have fifty-one,” and I yelled and screamed and they finally gave me fifty-three … and I came in at fifty-five.

*Valeris is almost completely featured only in ship-based scenes (plus being held post-assassination attempt at Khitomer) so she could conceivably have wrapped out early...plus her role in Split Second is a fairly distant third lead (in terms of screen time, that is), so could have attended that set late (which started filming in June).
When the mix was complete, the finished movie was screened for Gene Roddenberry - Nicholas Meyer

Roddenberry died in October, surely there's no way they could completely finish the film if shooting went to September.

Or of course, as you say she may very well have jumped back and forth. None of this is meant to mean anything other than I was curious and wanted to see if any specifics could be dug up. :)

It NEVER occurred to me that the two films were roughly the same time.

The Valeris hair style may have worked for a Vulcan, but given she was playing the role of romantic female lead ins split second , it really doesn’t do her any favors (note: my opinion). Then again, the latter was a b movie, so I guess it wasn’t as big an issue (or they didn’t have the budget for a wig)

Found and saw the movie. It's another winner of his. :D :techman:

As others did say, she filmed this one very closely while/after filming for STVI ended. The hairdo looks good, and there's also hair extensions or a wig or bald cap or one of those oversized hats with moose antler racks with two beer holsters, with one on each side, if the movie's budget were sufficiently small...

I got hooked on all his King Kong knockoff reviews, then found Barbarella, Lifeforce, The Green Slime (one of his best), and a couple other goofy low budget sci-fi or fantasy cheesy sex-themed late-70s comedies. Brandon is having way too much fun. Can't blame him...
