I'd want to concentrate on some of the episodes with the more blatant messages, as well, such as Devil in the Dark. It could also lead to some good discussions. I teach in California, and out here, some educational buzz words are "Depth and Complexity," especially the Sandra Kaplan trainings. I find that Star Trek episodes can really generate a lot of good discussion on ethics, among other things.
I haven't been able to show episodes to my students, due largely to school/administrator policies, but my class's hand signal for quiet is the Vulcan salute.
