Khan Noonien-Singh in The Savage Curtain?

That sounds like dereliction of duty.

I meant in the sense that if a captain fights in a battle against a ship, he doesn't necessarily get assigned to all future diplomatic overtures towards or battles against that species in perpetuity. Or if he makes first contact with a species, he doesn't have to make every subsequent contact, though he can participate, advise, etc. Or if his general purpose ship discovers a new life form, a smaller science ship can pick up where he left off.

With apologies for something O/T and so far along in the thread:

When I first saw this episode--I must have been 7 or 8, and already had familiarity with Hogan's Heroes re-runs (mid-1980's). I thought that actor Phillip Pine (Colonel Green) was Bob Crane (Colonel Hogan).

I realize that most would not think that, but I was a young 'un, after all.

That's nothing. I'm a grown man, and last night watching The Maltese Falcon, I briefly mistook Mary Astor for Bette Davis.
