Other than Kes....who? Pulaski?
Even if I wasn't that fond of Pulaski and was actually happy when Dr. Crusher returned, I would have loved to see Pulaski show up in some later episodes in the series as a guest character.
Voyager didn't just press the Reset Button, it danced on it. Kes was a casualty. So was pretty much every other character who died.
But Kes was a main character who was dumped in a very stupid way. She should have deserved better.
You're preaching to the choir on that one, even if I focus on a different shafted character.
That might be true. But it still has to be said.
Now I like that one even less. I think that fhe Doc was way out of line, complaining about a procedure that effectively saved his life. Especially given that Janeway had made similar decisions for organic characters (Tuvix, B'Elanna, and Seven to name three), so it wasn't a matter of him being a hologram. The Doctor was undoubtedly fully versed on procedures such as amputation and excision.
But agreed, while I think Kes would have ultimately understood, she should have been mentioned. Or better yet, featured in this episode instead of "The Abomination"
That's exactly my point. It was as if they tried to erase her from history.
DS9 was a series that learned to lay off the Reset Button as it went. I expect that if Lee Nollis (for example) had showed up later in the series, he'd have been a recurring character.
DS9 simply had much better writers and producers That's one reason why it became so good.
And Voyager, perhaps more than any other Trek, was a show that seemed to beg for that, for consequences. For losses, for damage to the ship, running out of torpedoes and other supplies. And for character growth, too.
Thats absolutely right.
But I must state that it's exactly the reason why I have a certain love-hate relationship with Berman, Braga, Taylor and all the other writers and producers.
They may have annoyed me and made me angry a lot during they years when it comes to that "Kes issue".
But without them, I would never had:
1. Created that magnificent Kes Website (oh maybe I would have done that anyway but never mind).
2. Written those Kes stories which did do away with the damage made to the character by the gang mentioned above.
3. Would have come up with that splendid Shuttle and Torpedo Building Team concept.
4. Started to nitpick some of thew worst errors and corrected them, all of which can be found at the Kes Website under the link Voyager's Mysteries-and how to solve them.
So here's to you, Berman, Braga and the rest of the gang. A toast and a thank you for giving me lots of creative ideas when it comes to Kes and Voyager!
