"Kelvans twice my size"?

Emperor Norton

In "Time's Orphan", Worf makes this reference to the Kelvans, first seen in the Original Series. However, the Kelvans were from the Andromeda Galaxy, which was dying from radiation. They sent out probe ships around the 1960s to nearby galaxies. And therein lies the problem. The Kelvans that Kirk met were from one multigenerational ship, who took 300 years to get to the Milky Way, and tried to hijack the Enterprise for another 300 year journey to report back for the eventual invasion. Therein lies the problem. It takes three centuries for Kelvans to get to the galaxy, DS9 is only one century later, and Kirk convinced/punched their leader into accepting peace. So how does Worf fight Kelvans?

Just a fun little nod of the writers that we shouldn't look too much into. The DS9 staff paid many little homages to TOS, more so than towards TNG. For example, many labels on cargo containers mention locations from TOS.

Think nothing of it, not everything needs to fit canon. ;)

Something caused the Kelvans of the Andromeda Galaxy to accelerate their timeline on the Milky Way invasion. Once those new Kelvans arrived, some probably didn't buy into the treaty Rojan negotiated with the Federation.

Plus, it would be illogical for the Kelvans to put their eggs all in one basket with a single mission to the Milky Way. Who knows? There may have been other groups that arrived even earlier than the group from "By Any Other Name".

The Kelvans probably sent many different ships to increase the chance that at least one would be successful. Kirk and co. encountered one. Worf encountered a different one.

In By Any Other Name, the Kelvans settled on the planet Kirk found them on. They might even joined the Federation. Either Worf encountered them on their new home or out in space somewhere.

Kelvans were described as having ice cold intelligences and being very tall but no specific description is ever given, so I mean they could be 3 times Worf's size.

Also I always imagined them having a Cthulhu or some sort of octopoid feel, as I recall they were mentioned to have lots of tentacles.

I'm sticking with the holodeck angle. We know Worf likes to exercise himself in the holodeck against any number of enemies - no reason this would be any different.

More than likely the guy Scotty got drunk.

Well from a DS9 post-modernist "everything simple is secretly made of suck" angle, he turned into a raging alcoholic who was ostracized out of Kelvan society and existed without a home or any place to belong, cursing Scotty's name. And one night Worf just happened to run across him during a drunken fit.

And Worf got his ass kicked. Because.....Worf.

The notion of DS9 as "post-modernist" is quite the giggle.

Modernism is the thing. Post-Modernism is the deconstruction of that thing. Modernism is Kirk destroying a computer god to liberate a planet, because it's the modern 1960s and Americans are smart, progressive and can do no wrong. Post-Modernism is that screwing things up royally and the situation turning to chaos with no clear morality.

No way. Worf wouldn't be bragging about hollow holodeck victories, like Lt. Gorman from Aliens "Thirty eight... simulated"

Didn't Kirk say that a Kelvans would be too big to fit inside a turbo-lift?

That sounds like more than twice Worf's size.

Depends how you define "twice the size", does it mean twice his mass, twice his volume, twice his height, twice his width if they aren't actually humanoid in their native state?

Maybe it's a small turbolift.

In answer to the OP, I don't really think there's a problem with canon unless you assume there were only one group of Kelvans who subsequently died out with no further contact with the federation.
