As others have said, they were underdeveloped. With more tweeking and emphasis on the "gang" angle they would have been better. There should have been more in-fighting between the sects with Voyager stuck in the middle instead of an almost instantaneous effort on the part of the writers to unite the Kazon under Cullah and Seska to overtake Voyager.

I was also irked by the whole Kazon uprising and overtaking the Trabe. The story just seemed to come out of nowhere and after one episode went nowhere again.

I can actually buy that scenario with the Kazon uniting against Voyager. It has happened before that tribes or political groups in a country or an area who have been bitter enemies suddenly unite to stand up against something they see as an outside threat.

I actually think that the Kazon were one of the better ideas for a Star Trek series because the scenario was actually realistic.

The flaws I can see are that their territory was little too large considering the constant in-fighting and that Culluh and the Nistrim were able to chase them from one end of Kazon territory to the other, not to mention the "water problem" for the Kazon-Ogla.

But the flaw with the large area and Culluh's ability to chase Voyager across Kazon territory with all the rivaling sects can be explained by the fact that the Kazon could put their differencies aside and unite against a common enemy to protect their territory.

The water-problem for the Kazon-Ogla at the Ocampa planet can be explained by the fact that the Kazon-Ogla on the Ocampa planet were under siege from some other Kazon sect and therefore couldn't travel to another star system to find some icy planet from which they could extract water plus the fact that the Ocampa system obviously didn't have any planets or asteroids where water or ice was available.

I agree that they are interesting and that they are great villains and also episodes are very dynamic when they are around but I still voted NAY, a BIG NAY:cool:

I voted yay. I liked the Kazons. However, they should've done less Kazons and more Vidiians.

Nay, but only because they were written that way. Great potential, but in the end, they were just unintelligent bullies.

...but some Kazon episodes were quite good, such as Maneuvers and Basics.

I don't think you and I will ever agree on episodes - well hardly every anyway since we have agreed on a few.

I simply cannot stand the Kazon and though I like Basics (but not the Kazon part) I absolutely cannot stand Maneuvers.

I think I'm more into villains such as the Hirogen or...the Kazon seemed stupid to me, mostly brute force and very little intelligence. Maybe that's part of the reason I don't have many favourite episodes in the first few seasons - too many Kazon epis. :)

...unintelligent bullies.

Now why didn't I think of that? lol Describes so perfectly how I feel about them and in a much better way.

I think the writers had given some thought for the Kazon background story. It is another thing entirely how interesting that background story is.

I personally liked the whole Seska thing and Kazon episodes. But on the other hand, I was pleased that there were not more of them. Kazon in small portions worked fine with me. Yes, they were bullies, but that was kind of the point, wasn't it?

And Gorf - you and I not seeing eye-to-eye is not surprising at all.

Nope, I don't like Kazons (I didn't like Klingons either, lol!). They are no nice villains to look at. However, I appreciate how the hostility of the DQ came immediately across thanks to them.

sorry, can't get past the hair.:scream:
Everytime I saw one, I was immediately distracted by the hair. That being said, the Kazon were an interesting species conceptually, but in actuality they were underdeveloped (serving merely as a vehicle for the amazing Seska). Plus they had that hair. did I mention the hair?

Mmmm.

Afros = bad
Nog = stay over at ds9
suicide bomb = interesting
obsession over water = pathetic

That pretty much sums it up then :D

Not only that, but the hair!

I personally liked the whole Seska thing and Kazon episodes

Got to admit that I was never all that fond of Seska either, :) but I agree about a good background story being created for the Kazon. I never liked the episode Alliances, but it gives another interesting piece of the puzzle to the mind of the Kazon.

Nay! I really didn't find the Kazon interesting. I was glad when Voyager moved out of their range.

I didn't even like Seska.
