Fine movie, as are Spartacus (3 hrs+), Ben-Hur (Heston version, 3.5 hrs +) and The Return Of The King (extended version, 4 hrs 11 mins). Conversely, many movies of less than half the length can feel overlong. Methinks you're missing the point, which is that most Star Trek season one episodes don't really justify the running time. Maybe it's that they're very earnest and melodramatic by today's standards. Of course there are several stellar episodes, though. Mileage may vary. What, you can't pay attention to a story for 50 minutes? I suppose Lawrence of Arabia is just another yawner as well.I bought the first season on DVD a few years ago and also lasted four episodes, though I did watch the extras. Managed the full season in remastered form, but that 48 or 49 minute running time is a drag with most episodes.
