I stumbled upon this intriguing scifi movie on Netflix, entitled "2036: Origin Unknown" starring nuBSG's Katee Sachkoff. It's a low budget, slow paced, cerebral scifi movie about a NASA type scientist looking into why a Mars mission failed with the help of her AI computer. A lot of the movie is Katee's character in a minimalist futuristic command center, talking to her AI computer. But the movie does end on a very 2001 Space Odyssey type revelation. The movie does explore some good scifi concepts like artificial intelligence consciousness.

Has anyone watched it?

The ending was kinda weird and interesting:
ARTI destroying the whole world because he deemed humanity to be hopelessly cruel seemed very cliche. We've seen this idea of an AI destroying the world because it judges humanity to be its own worse enemy a lot from Avengers: Age of Ultron, to BSG to Terminator.

The cubes made me think of Borg cubes, especially the shot at the end of all the cubes in space, reminded me of the Borg armada in Voyager's episode Scorpion.

So in the end, did Mac die and get resurrected as an android to go explore the universe with ARTI? We see her die of asphyxiation as the oxygen level drops to 0 and then we see a Mac in the center of the cube. So I assumed the Mac in the cube was an artificial life form made in her image. But ARTI also mentions developing a conscience I think. We hear Mac's line about human conscience being able to think twice before doing something that you can't take back. ARTI even mentions changing his mind I think. So did ARTI not destroy the world and it was all a simulation? Did Mac not die because it was a simulation and she passed the test (scientific curiosity) so ARTI took her to explore the universe with the other cubes? The ending was a big ambiguous to me.

I think I do vaguely remember hearing about Katee Sackhoff doing something recently, but I never found out what it was. I guess it must have been this.
