I just finished power watching it. Had never seen it before. Skarsgård's character becomes more and more prominent with each series. A couple of the early storylines are just crap but it does get better IMO.. and campy too, less intense and more humorous. He also has a female sidekick who is magnificent.

Yeah I've heard some good things about it. Never been that into the whole vampire thing so I never gave it a chance I guess. But could be worth it just to see him.

I always hated vampires. I only started watching it because I heard there was a lot of sex in it and it was one of those addictive type shows as well as being fantasy which immediately elevates it above regular stuff. You don't get F&SF with sex and addiction very often. And really, it opened my eyes to vampires.. I wouldn't say I'm a convert but I feel like I understand the appeal now.

Ahh well I'm going to give it a try once breaking bad is over, can't really focus on any other show right now haha talking about addictive.. Except for Orange is the new black of course, which I saw the week it came out on netflix. Didn't think I was going to like it and watched it only because Kate was in it, but it was excellent! And so much funnier than I expected. Crossing my fingers for an emmy for Kate next year! That would be freakin' awesome.

I'm going to power watch Breaking Bad's last season soon, hopefully I will get caught up and not spoiled. I gave up after season 4. Now if the drug cookers had been cooking up death sticks on the outer rim I might have stuck with it..

I would be SO SO happy if Kate got an emmy!! Though really there are a lot of actors in Orange that deserve one!

But not Prepon who bores me to death. Apologies to anyone in love with her.

Yes you should, it gets better in season 5 in my opinion. The last couple of episodes have been the best television I've ever watched actually, very intense.

Had to google what death sticks are, still not quite clear on that but "cooking death sticks on the outer rim" sounds far more badass than cooking meth haha!

Yeah I agree, lots of great actresses. I think prepon is okay, but I think they should have cast someone other than schilling.. there's something about her that bothers me.

heh, yes I really like all my drugs and sex and dramas set in space. SET EVERYTHING IN SPACE!

Schilling, blech. I thought she was incredibly irritating in Mercy and unfortunately she plays a very similar character in Orange. Unlike Mercy though the rest of the cast is strong and the show is such an ensemble one that if you don't care for someone it doesn't matter, there are plenty of storylines and scenes without them. KM is very funny in Mercy if you haven't seen it, not in it very much but every line is pure comedy.

With BB I am hoping season 5 shows more of the women. I was getting sooo tired of all these angry cooking men.

I did watch Mercy, first time I saw kate in a comedic role, but the rest was kind of blah. Yep I agree, schilling plays pretty much the same character and maybe that's what annoyed me. Her and jason biggs characters are my least favorite but yes, the other ones make up for it.

Sorry to say that there's not much more of the women in season 5, the men (and women) just get more crazy... and angrier hehe.

I've also been catching up on Ntsf:sd:suv, have you seen that one? Too bad she seems to have an increasingly small part in it, guess she doesn't have time anymore with filming orange. She's absolutely hilarious as kove!

I think Schilling is "perfectly" cast, because I don't think we're "supposed" to fall for Piper.

At the start of my reviews... IIRC I often said I didn't like Piper, and if I met her in real life I would either avoid her or actively disrespect her for the way she treated life and Larry.

Piper carries/embodies many of the "cardinal" sins of modern upper middle class white America (materialism, pride, arrogance, blindness to the less fortunate) in the same yet less illegal way that Alex carries the more "mortal" sins of white America (self-indulgence, loss of empathy http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=what-me-care , loss of drive for anything not "me" oriented)

I can't get over the way Alex put the LOVE of her life in danger when she carried that drug money to Brussels. In "danger" from her own employers had Piper "bailed" when the bag was delayed at the airport. When Alex laughed and told Piper their employers WOULD HAVE KILLED HER had Piper cut and run... Piper's face simply fell and I'm sure her heart stopped for several seconds.

Both of these women are quite damaged in their own way, by circumstances within AND beyond their control. I'm pleased that neither have been "miraculously cured" after the first 3-4 months of prison life.

After all... this isn't a Star Trek episode.

I am waaay behind on NTSF, couldn't find an easy way to watch it when last I was looking. But I mean to catch up, I loved her as Kove!

It's godawful BUT Kate is just so great in the role that it makes it worth the slog. Though it's painful because really they should have started writing it all around her. The whole time I was thinking "I want her as the crass comedic mom role NOW!" and we get something of that in Orange, though I think we may end up getting even more after the success of this show! I think our KM is going to be on tv for a long time doing lots and lots of great things after this!!

Yep maybe that was their intention. But still, she could be less annoying. Or maybe I should say... boring. We're not supposed to like pennsatucky either but I think the actress portrays her in an interesting way. I noticed that schilling is in a movie from last year with zac efron, wonder if she's any good in that one? The reviews look pretty bad, so maybe not..

I think our KM is going to be on tv for a long time doing lots and lots of great things after this!!

Piper is an interesting character for me because while I want to see her prevail (change into a better person, get out of jail), I don't really like her, and she's not really done anything awful. I was going to write up a big thing, but JanewayRulz! has probably explained it better than I could.

Definitely agree with the "little girl helpless" voice/attitude, but again I think its a choice by the writers/director. It speaks to how she "got by" all these years, acting like a child instead of a grownup who takes control of her life. Someone who not only has convictions but who has the strength to stand by them.

But apologizing for unintended or thoughtless words / actions doesn't get you very far because its too easy, too often faked and therefore worthless as any kind of relationship currency, as Red pointed out to Piper early on.

In "polite" society we would just take Piper's apology and move on, dismissing her from our group as not worth the costs a high maintenance socialite like her requires... but Litchfield is not "polite society".
