Kate Mulgrew - Orange is the New black

Well, I finally got home.

In the 6th hour of my car trip, I was listening to a review of the new Sandra Bullock / George Clooney's scifi movie "Gravity" on NPR. So NATURALLY I was surprised to hear this in the first minute of the review.

"This is what the movies need this year, to pull the public away from their TV's watching AMC's "Breaking Bad" or their devices watching Netflix's "Orange is the New Black."

Naturally, I "gravitated" ;) towards one cast member in particular.

But the lady who knows she would do well in a women’s prison? Kate Mulgrew, AKA Red. “I would survive. First of all I love women, and I understand women. I’m not gay, but I love to cook, I want to feed. I think it would be fine.”

I think I love Kate :adore: for this next comment.

When asked what piece of technology each of the cast would miss the most in prison... Kate got in the last word.

And Kate kept it old school, admitting, “If you took my books away I would be in bad, bad shape. Gotta have the books. But I like a real book, the hard copy.” :bolian:
 
Had a tangential Orange is the New Kate moment last night.

I'm watching Weeds which as you know is a Jenji Kohan show and suddenly there was Michelle Trachtenberg who played a lame-o friend of Kate Mulgrew's daughter's character Piper in Mercy. She is heaps better on Weeds (could there have been a more annoying character on Mercy? OH YEAH THE MAIN ONE).

I want a spin off show of Mercy with Kate Mulgrew playing the character she played there and everyone else as minor characters.

Oh and welcome home JRulez, SIX HOUR CAR TRIP I'd be dead. But at least it showed you that you can drive and drive and drive and drive and Orange is still with you.
 
It was the 6th hour when I heard the review... the whole trip was 8 1/2 hours.

Which makes me think of a Texas joke.

This rich Texan was at his high school reunion trying to impress his "poor as church mice" fellow alumni with the size of his ranch back home.

"I can get in my pick up truck in the morning, drive all day and STILL not reach the other end of my property."

To which his fellow graduate replied, "Huh. I had a truck like that once, before I finally got rid of it." :rofl:

I'll have you know, you are a better Mulgrew fan than I am... I couldn't get past the 2nd episode of Mercy. :brickwall:

As for Weeds, I decided to not start it after comments I've read elsewhere and your own faint praise of it. :vulcan:

Anyway, how good could it be without Mulgrew in it? :shrug:

I will say first of all that I still don't really like tumblr, more that I kind of view it as a necessary evil of fandom these days. :rommie: But I have a newish blog at admiralshark.tumblr.com that is entirely Janeway and J/C stuff. I really only started it as a repository for my "feels", as the kids say - i.e. just a place to post pictures - so I don't really follow anyone or reblog much. I used to have a more active, multifandom blog but I abandoned it a while back, as it was eating too much of my time.

I don't - or rather, I haven't yet - posted any Kate stuff really as my other blog is kmdaily.tumblr.com (which you already know of) which has that covered. ;)

I feel like I need to lure JRulez down the tumblr rabbit hole.

There is sooooo much Kate in there JRulez.. you could just follow the blogs of people you know like froot and possum and the wonderful madzilla. Every morning I let the Kate wash over me as I have my morning coffee and scroll through tumblr. It prepares me for my day.

I looked at Madzilla's wonderful site, and clicked on several of the "notes" that were pinned to various photos/montages, and 99% of the time all I found was...

It's not a discussion site. It's a scrapbook. You look through one person's scrapbook and like stuff (thus saving a record of it in your list of things you've liked on the sidebar) and if it's really lovely you reblog it to your own blog, thus adding it to YOUR scrapbook. People do try and have discussions sometimes but it's not set up that way. Once you see it for no more than that it becomes a very pretty place to play :)
