Congrats to Kate Mulgrew for her 2014 Emmy nomination in the “Supporting Actress, Comedy Series” category. Even though I’ve never seen OITNB, I hope that Kate wins! Here is a list of all of the nominees in the various categories.

FYI, Kate’s co-star Taylor Schilling was nominated for nominated for “Best Actress in a Comedy Series.”

It is indeed impressive. What other Emmys have Trek actors been nominated for. Primetime Supporting Actress is pretty up there.

It has happened more often than you realize.

William Shatner was nominated 6 years running for best supporting actor in a drama in "Boston Legal" and won the first two times.

He was also nominated for a guest starring role/ comedy in 1999 for "3rd Rock from the Sun".

Patrick Stewart has been nominated 4 times for various non trek roles, but never won.

Scott Bakula has been nominated 4 times in the 90's for QL and once last year for "Behind the Candelabra" but has not won.

I wonder how big of a chance Kate Mulgrew has to win the Emmy. She's up against:
Mayim Bialik of The Big Bang Theory, Julie Bowen of Modern Family, Allison Janney of Mom, Kate McKinnon of Saturday Night Live, and Anna Chlumsky of Veep. Does anyone know who the frontrunner is in this category?

I think it's between Janney, Chlumsky and Mulgrew with Janney being the frontrunner, Mom isn't that great but Janney is Janney.

She may have a better chance at winning just because of the way Netflix releases its shows. Although the emmy nom in question is for season 1, having season 2 get released last month and letting Red have such a prominent role in it is bound to reinforce her performance in the voters minds.

Then again, maybe Netflix has been lying to us and we're the only ones (excluding the OP) who watch it.
