Karl Urban in talks for McCoy

If they want to keep pulling from the J.J. Abrams pool, how about Rick "What About Brian" Gomez (also Band of Brothers) as McCoy?

"Other guy" seems more like some strange mutated combination of John Astin and Rowan Atkinson.

True, other guy has a few McCoy-ish looks in that clip, but other than that, meh.

As far as Karl Urban goes, I think he's got the chops for this. Yeah, he does a lot of brow-furrowing in most of his well known roles but he strikes me as the kind of actor that can bring the kind of gentle strength that is so imperative with Bones.

He was a good, if not indespensible part of LOTR and he singlehandedly saved Doom from being unwatchable. Any actor that can keep me from walking out of that mess has to have something left in the tank somewhere.

Still, I've been pretty happy about the casting so far (and the rumored Kirk possibilities don't seem awful) - the only one I can't see is that comic guy as Scotty, who needs to be a BIG guy, but whatever...
Scotty wasn't big in TOS, and Simon Pegg is the same height Doohan was.

Must admit, I'm not seeing this one, the only piece of casting or possible casting where I feel that way. He's a good actor, I just don't see him as McCoy.

With fellow Antipodeans Crowe and Bana in the mix to play the big bad, I assumed that Urban was also being sought for a villain too. Never saw him as McCoy. But I'll reserve judgement.

Urban would make a great rough and tumble generic starship captain...but an old fashioned country doctor full of flare and character? You gotta be kidding. Another cookie cutter "leading man" type...for McCoy of all people. Boring. Maybe he will even take his shirt off in sickbay....the ladies will love it!

I'm open to practically anything (and anybody), but I don't see Urban as McCoy ... however I'll give Abrams the benefit of the doubt of he's cast.
