Kahless-Morath Statue sculpture recreation

Robert E.

Ensign
Red Shirt
Hi, I am recreating the statue of Kahless fighting his brother Morath, I can't discuss what it's for yet,.. but I wanted to get some feedback, and ideas, the pose is a really hard challenge, it is almost inhuman! (Klingons can really stretch! ;") I have created the figures in CGI so I can work on it in VR,. I have finally gotten it to a certain point, where I am now concentrating more on the final look than the pose, so I am doing a muscle study which I will use to further carve into the penultimate 3D mesh in Mudbox. (or any VR Sculpting program I can find that one can import an object into!) I will post some images of the original statue below too and some videos of where I'm at, You can see where it is smooth and I want to carve into it and make it like the original! But the POSE is the biggest challenge! :)
I cannot discuss why I am making this,. Because I enjoy it,... with the early 'patina/clay' material and the Muscle Maps to help me Sculpt Muscle Strain peaks and valleys, ,.. etc.. Any POSITIVE or CONSTRUCTIVE comment most welcome! Material Unreal Engine setting suggestions? Pose corrections? Feet too small?

Here is a short video of where I am at with the statue, in a animated camera shot:

MUSCLE STUDY, I CREATED SO I CAN 'CARVE' AND 'SCULPT' INTO THE EXISTING VERSION (IN AUTODESK 'MUDBOX; OR SOME VR SCULPTING PROGRAM IF I FIND ONE) TO MAKE IT MUCH MORE LIKE THE ORIGINAL! With all the 'straining' striations etc!

Looks nice so far!
The TNG art department used a model of a real world statue called Bältesspännarna for the replica in Worf's quarters, with the cape removed and Klingon foreheads added to the fighters. You can get a lot more references by searching for the real-world statue. :)

I knew about them using that Swedish (I think) knife fight statue but hadn't seen a huge pic of it like that! Looks like they took the original, sawed off the cape and knife nubs, then (very artistically and anatomically accurate) added layers of clay not only to the forehead, but the entire body to get all the straining muscle striations, the huge hair etc. mUch ;arger frame etc.. (Klingon,...) How clever and efficient. Starting with the statue probably saved 90% of the time :) That level of clarity and such a huge image should help with pose tweaks!

It looks like I am close pose wise, (I can't say what it is for but I hope you can ken where it will end up!)

speaking of unspoken matters,... I have heard rumours Stage 9 crew is potentially working with FOX to do the ORVILLE!
Do you 'VR'?

Rekkert... That sounds really familiar,. OH! I think you let me a long time ago use the TOS Bridge you made, (remember I made the animated panel textures) :) I keep a folder of sources so I won't forget to credit anyone (if I ever finish 'Beyond Antares') and the other 18 'lost' TOS episodes I have ready,.. Here is your bridge inhabited animated and in action: Star Trek Beyond Antares:

I never finished because I needed a better computer to render the elaborate alien dimension Spock is kidnapped to, (just a few minute of animation took months and months to render,..A nightmare, during which I was unable to use my computer!) Butit is utterly hopeless,. no one in 3 years donated enough to buy a hard drive (Just as I was trying to make it happen, Axanar got a MILLION then started to speak of: 'taking a 'salary' and making 'competing content' and screwed it up for everyone else, it absolutely killed my project,.. it was so depressing, having put years of work into it, (and the other 18 full length scored elaborate flowing episodes I slowly made in audio form to eventually animate to). I wondered why I was fighting so hard to beat the cancer, and live in such an unfair world,.

Anywyas I am nealry fully healthy again, and trying to make a 'come back' of sorts (not that I have anything to come back to except soul crushing disappointment and lack of community support,..) But I am an optimist and I LIKE making Trek CGI so,. well there it is,.

Here is (I believe) your early TOS Sick Bay layout that I totally decked out with animations, props etc. (rendered in 3D 360° VR at 4k/8k resolution):

You can see McCoy with a bevy of Space Babes in this set in Beyond antares.)

If you would like the Max file for anything let me know! You are like Star Trek CGI royalty! So cool you responded,.

I would welcome your collaboration at any level with both the TOS ongoing project and my new VR 'enterprises' :) I have nearly 2,500 (Trek and VR oriented) youtube subscribers now, I know that could be turned into something fun,.

I wish I could convince people how 'real' the VR TOS Trek Project I have planned is, I call it 'Star Trek Next Five' and overall, 'Project Holodeck', 19 truly new, full length TOS episodes total, comprising the last several hundred thousand lines of dialog by ALL the actual TOS actors (even the Klingons, Harry Mudd, Trelane,.) all in character, it HAS to get out there somehow, I can't let it can't go to the grave with me!

Jonathan Lane suggested when he wrote the 2 part article about the project (links below) that I do it on the REFIT ship!

Here is the 2 part article on the AXANAR Production site, if you have any interest,.

I am also making 3 VR games (not Trek related but one is hard SCI-FI!) ---> Do you have any interest in collaborating? I would be most fair in sharing sales income, and with 2,500 subs, I believe I have a foundation of marketing any VR project! I mean it's start :) ///,..

I work in UNREAL Engine, 3ds Max, Mudbox, Motion Builder, (Though I still Character Studio!) etc.

Thanks for responding! Sorry for: 'Story of my life' (LOL) but it has been along time since I heard the name! (I was morbidly depressed to the point of not leaving the house after beating the cancer, but never finding any kind of avenue, or support or collaboration, to make my projects (I simply cannot render elaborate Hollywood level animation with a single home desktop computer,.) and even though people watch Beyond Antares and comment excitedly that it is: 'so much better' better than any JJ Abrahms or CBS 'New Trek' and freak out that it is all the original TOS actors voices in a new story, BUT they don't seem to put one and one million together and realize, if i can can do THAT Full Episode of New Unknown Dialog, than I can do MORE (and HAVE!)

THANK YOU Any input welcome,. VERY welcome,.

Woody.

I never worked on TOS sets so you must be mistaking me for someone else. :)

As for Stage 9, the team has moved on and we're working on several possible projects, but nothing involving Fox.

I mixed up 'DREX' and 'Rekkert' I think! :) Oh yeah you did the Bridge for Stage 9! :)

Only response, Trek really is dead.. It is so sad. I guess I will just move on from this... No one cares...

I for one am curious to see the final result, but whatever floats your boat.

Your sculpture and your animation are incredible.

I'm sorry, sometimes eliciting responses to work on this forum can be trying, including from me. I guess that's one pitfall of the "Like" button.

One criticism, if you don't mind, is your bronze shader. It seems a bit shiny and plasticky and less like metal or even coated metal.

Other than that, I think you've done a great job. Stick with this forum, if you don't mind. I'd love to see some more of your work.

So can I ask: is all of this done in Mudbox? What do you think of it? I've been thinking of getting it.

What he said. :techman:

@Robert E., I hope you do stick around and keep us posted about your progress. What you have thus far looks amazing and very promising. But as @Scribble is saying, the forum can be a little slow and it's hard to gauge feedback at times. But that doesn't mean people aren't liking your stuff. My only recommendation would be to just keep at it. Personally, I do look at everything that's posted here. I just don't have the time to comment on everything. Often I just quietly like someone's stuff without saying so. :)

THANK YOU! I was too impatient.. :) I have very few people in my life so it is hard to work in isolation so much, but I also don't want to have to go to a place like Redditwhere it can be really kinda vicious,.. I REMEMBER BBS's so it kinda feels like home,./. :) Any shaders will be done by Unreal Engine in the end, this was just 3ds Max 'Arnold' test render,.. About Mudbox, I plan to do a final pass in Mudbox but I tend to work on multiple things and advance on each i it's turn, so haven't gotten to that last step quite yet. (The reason I mapped it with that Muscle Map was to study the dips and curves and really make the smooth version I have so far, look like the actual CARVED version,.. Being able to see exactly where the muscles are and aren't will help enormously I believe... I started the character in DAZ 3D, so I could take advantage of the Genesis bodybuilder morphs , I then exported it all to 3ds Max and recreated the BOnes as a prefect Biped copy (So I can pose using the easy forward and reverse IK etc of Character Studio in Max,.. ) AS I mentioned I will finalize the mesh in Mudbox (assuming no VR Sculpting app comes out that allows one to both Import AND edit a Mesh in VR) then it will end up in Unreal Engine in Worf's quarters next to a bunch of lighted candles, in VR. thanks! I am almost at 2,500 subscriber on my youtube, I will be updating there as well,. I am also making a Sci-Fi character driven VR Adventure/survival Game

Hey that's nice thank you! I get too impatient sometimes, I am too isolated right now,. After making Star Trek: 'Beyond Antares' (and subsequently shelving the other 18 episodes due to lack of interest) I guess I am kinda expecting people to ignore whatever I make,. I have to throw away the last half million lines of dialog from all the TOS actors, becasue I just can't convince people that it is real. (Although at least a couple Trek writers tried to get the word out,: one writing a 2 part article about my LOST TOS Series on the AXAVAR production site!: .
https://axanarproductions.com/fan-film-friday-star-trek-beyond-antares-part-1/
https://axanarproductions.com/fan-film-friday-star-trek-beyond-antares-part-2/
He called me "The Amazing Robert England" at least I got one person to relaize, these ar the real actors voices in unknown stories, but the public was too hard to convince, They will go with me to the grave I think, Such a shame,. The experiences I had with Beyond Antares (doing Ten of Thousands of hours of man hour of work, and entire production with multiple cast, hundreds of lines of dialog, score, sound effects, 10 characters ti animated 15 sets to create, All the ORIGNLA Cast voices in characters a real flowing full length TREK TOS Episode, with a promise of 18 more,. THEN just as I release, along comes a guy, with 20 minutes of people sitting down and talking into camera, something that took AN AFTERNOON to create, and because he is a good SCHMOOZER, He gets a million dollars for a days work with a camera, while I never get enough support to buy a HARD DRIVE, for tens of thousands of hours of man hours making Technical Art and Production, and then the whole concept of fan films is destroyed because he stupidly speaks publicly about COMPETING and TAKING a SALARY.. (but he gets to keep the million) That is probably why I am a little sensitive, I know what GIANT MIRACLES can be, just thrown into the bottomless ocean of obscurity without even making a splash... and never even get a chance because of other , overly ambitious types who are not even nice people. (He was so rude to me the two times we spoke, he doesn't deserve to be involved with Star Trek he is a jerk. Life is so unfair,. .))

I guess I'm still a little bitter, Everyone says they want real Trek, while I continue to sit on 19 total, Full-Length Episodes of TOS with all the real voices of the actual actors in character, in new unheard stories,. and .. nothing,..

If you want to check it out, my channel is: www.youtube.com/NextWorldVR ('Beyond Antares' is the feature video I think)

THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENTS! Sometime I feel so burned out and forgotten. I have the last of the real Trek, and I can't seem to get it out there no matter what I try... I thought if people see 30-40 minutes of an unknown episode, with the voices of all the real actors saying lines of dialog they have never heard, SURELY they will believe I have the other 218 episodes and want to see them rendered in High Rez and as ineractive Holodeck/VR adventures, !!??!! Right??

:)

It's rough having the rug pulled out from under you after so much effort. I've been there.

I guess that's just when you need to reinvent yourself and most of all, network. You never know what might come of it.
