Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths preview

That is what I was wondering as well. Also Owlman is actually Thomas Wayne, the older brother of Bruce who was murdered in the antimatter universe.

You can't use the same voice actors because it's not the same characters. Very similar, but different continuity. If you were to just keep the actors across the board, people would be confused.

Is this DVD version based on Grant Morrison's Earth-2? It looks very much like the TPB I read a few years ago. The animation style and overall continuity don't seem to be consistent with the JLU series as well as Batman: TAS or Superman: TAS. That's one thing I dislike about the animated direct-to-DVD DC titles that have been released on video so far (Green Lantern, New Frontier, Wonder Woman, Superman/Batman). There's no connection, no relation; each is an independent, stand-alone story.

^ Apparently it's a loose adaption of Bruce Timm's abandoned Justice League story and doesn't have anything to do with JLA Earth 2 which I love.

^Actually it's a fairly close adaptation of Dwayne McDuffie's script for a DVD movie that would've bridged the gap between Justice League and Justice League Unlimited but which was shelved just before it entered production. McDuffie himself has adapted it into Crisis on Two Earths and is the sole credited writer.

It reminds me a lot of a 2 parter episode from the Justice League series where they were fooled by their alternate universe counterparts.

I think Ultraman is supposed to be Kal-El of Krypton, but other than that, yeah, they're all different.

Ultraman has ties to Krypton, but he's not Kal-El. Depending on the version one uses, Ultraman is either the son of Krypton's Jur-Li; or he is a human astronaut who was caught in a deep space shuttle explosion and repaired by Kryptonians who knew nothing about human physiology (hence the reason he became super powered and also mentally unstable).

"Crisis on Earth Two" producer Bruce Timm talked about his understanding of Ultraman back when the feature was known as "Worlds Collide":

As for comparisons between 'World's Collide' and 'A Better World', there are quite enough differences between the Justice Lords and the Syndicate to make doing the story worthwhile. For instance, the Lords were merely misguided, but the Syndicate folks are 100% evil. Also, although the individual motifs are similar, the Syndicate guys aren't exact doppelgängers for the Justice League (Ultraman isn't Clark Kent / Kal El, Superwoman isn't Diana of the Amazons, Owlman isn't Bruce Wayne, etc.). In any case, 'World's Collide' is vastly different than 'A Better World,' in general tone and specific story beats. Keep your fingers crossed, maybe someday

The only Syndicate member in the comics that's ever been a true double of a DC character is Superwoman; she has been portrayed as an Amazonian mirror universe double of Wonder Woman. The difference is that Superwoman's lasso has the ability to either change shape (such as to a sword, a shield, etc.), or the lasso could also be used to release people's inhibitions.

As I recall, in Morrison's Earth-2, Superwoman was actually Lois Lane, not Diana of the Amazons.
Sort of. She was an unnamed Amazon who came to Man's World and assumed the identity of Lois Lane.

Timm said elsewhere that he thinks this version of Ultraman is Mon-El ("thinks" as in, we leave it completely open to interpretation).

Chris that was what I meant...I got screwed up with both the projects. I forgot McDuffie wrote the proposed JL/JLU episode and this one as well, thanks for clarifying.

Okay here's a short run down on the Crime Syndicate line up:

Owlman
Superwoman
Ultraman
Power Ring
Johnny Quick

Those are the members that were in Grant Morrison's JLA Earth 2. Those are what have been shown I think in ithe previews...I remember reading that there will be anti-matter versions of Aquaman and Martian Manhunter as well. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Ultraman is Clark Kent who as i understand it is actually a US Air Force Lt. who was transformed while out on a mission and given superpowers. Again JLA Earth 2 Ultrman

Superwoman: Actually Lois Lane

Owlman: As I mentioned above Thomas Wayne Jr, the oldest son of the Gotham City Police Commish Thomas Wayne who he tortures psychologically on a nightly basis and blames for letting the murder of his younger brother Bruce happen. Earth 2 invention. I am not familiar with the original Crime Syndicate Owlman.

Power Ring: I think in JLA Earth 2 Power Ring had only recently been given the ring and was just figuring out how to use it. A reflection of Kyle Rayner at the time. He was a successor to the counterpart of Hal Jordan in the original Crime Syndicate. The same as Johnny Quick.

I thought the Crime Syndicate was from Earth-3.

That was the pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths and post-Infinite Crisis/52 Crime Syndicates.

from 1985-2005 the multiverse didn't exist and the only Earths were Earth and Antimater Earth aka Qward. That's where the Crime Syndicate from the Earth-2 story are from.
