Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ...

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

did anyone notice that we never saw a female hirogen, yet they were suppose to be nomadic? surely that should mean they lived together on the ships...

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

Maybe we did see females but didn't notice. Maybe the Hirogen are more reptilian than mammalian and the females don't have breasts.

Saw Prey last night. Not bad ....

They are still very one dimensional but pretty badass

I found the Janeway / Seven interplay a lot more interesting though.

What the hell is Species 8472 supposed to be? A CGI fart?

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

8472 is about that insubstantial in the long run.

They were just too expensive to be usable.

The Founders were as cheap as giving Colm Meany some additional lines, to a bankruption from some extreme CGI-poloozaing..

Did anyone else notice how they kind of shrunk or was it just me? I mean I remember in the first episode we saw them they were all like seven feet tall or at least looked like it and then by the last time we saw them some were eye to eye with Janeway. Personally I liked the idea of the Hirogen having a much higher average height.
I'm guessing that they ran out of super tall actors and just used slightly taller than average actors.

And yes SEVEN ROCKS! And you shouldn't skip any episodes with 7 in them. Especially not when she appears in a black turtleneck.
So basically every VOY episode from S4 onwards?

if that was so, then why in "Flesh in Blood" was the lead Hirogen disrespectful to Janeway because she was female. The leader clearly insunuiated that she couldn't lead because she was a woman and that the technician shouldn't follow her because of it. kind of implies they were treated as second class citerzens. also it is noted on memory alpha

Little is known about Hirogen women, though it has been suggested that they pursued male hunters in possession of rare or unique trophies acquired during a hunt. (VOY: "Hunters")

The Hirogen social structure was organized into packs of male hunters, each led by a Hirogen known as the Alpha.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

The women are all on the special egg ships. They are the ones that knit the nets.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

No doubt nerds everywhere study these 'Alphas' and imitate them in an effort to be more successful with women

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

Later we see a Hirogen at least a head shorter than Janeway.

He's labelled as a tech, rather than a hunter, and even though I didn't keep track of the personal pronouns, and the actors seemed to be male, the three foot height difference could be the difference between boys and girls..

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

Maybe the Hirogen are a unisex species that changes genders for mating.

Like frogs.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

That would help.

the point of what they did in the killing game was that hirogen were not hooking up because hunting is more interesting than fucking and raising children. The Alpha was afraid the hirgoen Culture would die out first socially and then literally unless it could relearn to bind together into communities.

If any Hirogen could make a baby with any other Hirogen, if afforded half an hour to sprout the correct genitals, it could explain how these "people" have survived so long without any where to hook up like a barn raising or a Church mixer.

That's a fair point. I forgot about that. However, recognizing Janeway as female doesn't mean that Hirogen females are the same as human females. But it would seem more likely that we actually haven't seen any females. Perhaps they stay (or are kept) "at home" while the males do the hunting.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

You're seeing things.

He wasn't an ass to Janeway because she was a woman, he was an ass to Janeway because she was prey.

Insinuating that the Alpha was only being a Prick to Janeway because she was woman, would suggest that with any of the male crew, he'd get a beer and go to a strip club with to talk this shit over about fake prey.

Sigh.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

They wouldn't be stupid enough to repeat that Kazon shit would they?

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

I thought the Hirogen were actually pretty cool looking. Cute even. Maybe it's the nose area.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

I agree that the Hirogen were pretty cool looking. At least they didn't just put some forehead ridges and call it a day.

i think it was more than just refering to her as prey - the hirogean are basic, if it was just that they would have said - "Are you taking your orders from prey now". there have been occassions where they have been refered to as prey. As I mentioned on my first post, memory alpha refers that they are organised into "male hunting parties". so as i stated, this would show signs (not conclusive proof) that the women were second classed citerzens.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

Hirogen are too similar to Jem'hadar.

Human are too similar to.. every other mammal species.
