Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ...

... they give us the Hirogen

Sophisticated enough to build or steal space stations around black holes yet so primitive that they still masturbate over the entrails of the creatures that they 'hunt'.

I just saw 'The Hunter' and it was worse than Caretaker as an introduction to the bad guys. I especially disliked the very subtle ending where they make it clear that we are going to have to put up with those guys for many more episodes.

The Hirogen
- like flying around in dark ships with nets in them
- look fugly
- probably wont threaten Voyager as long as Voyager doesn't encounter a graviton matrix field that causes their shields to go offline for no reason
- 'have no morals'. Like the Borg but with no redeeming features whatsoever

At least you could laugh at the Kazon and their women hating ways. I have a feeling that I'll be skipping over Hirogen episodes ....... can't believe I'm paying $20 a month for the Sci Fi channel just to watch those losers

Incidentally, Seven rocks :bolian:

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

Don't you DARE skip the Hirogen episodes (don't worry, there are only a few). IF you skip them you will miss one of the greatest double eps ever.

And yes SEVEN ROCKS! And you shouldn't skip any episodes with 7 in them. Especially not when she appears in a black turtleneck.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

Yes, it is just about the best episodes ever.

But these bugeyes are a bit shit.

I mean Berman risked a huge lawsuit if any one involved in Predator actually watched TV. Maybe that's how matt Winston got his job on Enterprise, he threatened to tell his dad about the Hirogen?

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

...wait, I was supposed to be laughing at the Kazon?

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

If you have the standard packet of human emotions loaded up.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

Astounding thread on a fan forum. I thought this place was for people who like Star Trek.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

It's for people who like to talk about Star Trek. What is said about it varies wildly :D

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

I like Star Trek, and I love Voyager. That doesn't mean they're off the hook when they do something silly ....

Is it ever established whether these bone collectors created the communications network, or whether they stole it? You can spoiler me

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

I never thought that the Hirogen were awful, but they were some what one-dimensional. Truth be told I never saw the resemblance to Predator until much later (after seeing the movies and people mentioning it) but I do see a resemblance now. Good thing the Hirogen never developed cloaking devices.

I could not laugh at the Kazon. They were most annoying, godawful aliens ever; they were like Klingons on a bad hair day. :ack:

That being said, don't skip the Hirogen episodes (because like teacake said, if you do you will miss a great two-parter). And for the record while I can't stand the Kazon, I do enjoy the two-parter 'Basics'.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

Is this the place where teacake says she thought the Kazon were kind of hot?

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

I enjoyed Basics. Hated that Seska bitch though, I'm glad she died.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

the Hirogen are awesome. Seska too.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

they aren't as bad as the ferengi who were suppose to be the main bad guys on TNG until they were moved to a more comical role. but don't skip episodes, there is a great two parter coming up.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

The Hirogen are awesome. So there. I don't care what anyone else thinks.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

I have no problem with them. Thought the nets and trophies quite creepy. I like the idea of a species that is nomadic too.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the Hirogen were once a peaceful technologically-advanced culture centuries before, and it was this culture that built the comm network. However, for whatever reason their culture degenerated into what you see now. They still know that the network is theirs, but either they don't know how to use it or have lost the ability to build more.

Take this info with a grain of salt however, as I don't remember where I got it from.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

Nomadic as in, no home world, just their ships and some stop over points. I can imagine a race that is nomadic by instinct for whom settling in one place is as uncomfortable as wandering your whole life would be for humans.

Re: Just when you thought Star Trek bad guys couldn't get any lamer ..

Did anyone else notice how they kind of shrunk or was it just me? I mean I remember in the first episode we saw them they were all like seven feet tall or at least looked like it and then by the last time we saw them some were eye to eye with Janeway. Personally I liked the idea of the Hirogen having a much higher average height.
