Just to be...normal

Well, let's hope they still need graphic designers!

Seconded.

I dunno, graphic design is generally in the service of capitalism. When nothing needs to be sold, what will graphic designers do?
Who do you think will design all the logos in the future? Like on baseball patches (Pike City Pioneers), bottle labels (all the beverages in Quark's bar) or store signs (Sisko's). And I doubt all the graphic readouts on padds and consoles were designed by someone simply advising the computer to create them. Also, graphic design is an artform, not just a way to earn money. If they don't need creativity in the future I don't want to live there.

I'd either be on the far edge of known space as a command division officer or I'd be at a university deep in home space teaching history.

Zoology would be even more interesting in the depths of space then it would be here on earth. I could see my joining starfleet as a zoologist.

Exopsychology sounds pretty interesting. I wouldn't mind doing a spot of authoring on the topic.

Bicycle mechanic. Still the most efficient form of transportation on the planet.

I would be a doctor again as long as managed care does not exist in the 23rd century. Or next year when I am retiring soon than I would otherwise.

2nd thought.

McCoy: 2 cc of Cordrazine! Stat !!

Nurse Chapel: Sorry doctor, we will need to get pre-approval for that, since it is not on the formulary of the Andorian HMO.

McCoy: McCoy to Bridge, begin auto-destruct sequence, McCoy, Leonard, Chief Medical Officer, Code 1A 1B 2B Destruct.

Sorry, but this touched a nerve.

It might be cool to work in a JAG office. As long as Admiral Satie wasn't there.

I was wondering, anybody know why DS9 needed a tailor??? Why spend money when you can replicate clothes to exact specifications?

I like to think I'd be doing more or less what I already am doing (or aspiring to do) but in a more evolved 24th century way.

Operating advanced urban agricultural facilities and coordinating shipments to poverty class settlements and regions.

I'm a big proponant of growing plants inside buildings - the plans are already in place, and we all will probably see the concept in some manner in our own lifetimes. If it is used to it's capacity, one city could grow enough plants to practically end world poverty... not to mention all of the farmland which would be free for more natural purposes.

If you were just, well, you, in Star Trek's future, what 'normal' career you have seen in an episode or movie could you see your self doing...
The same job I'm doing now, working on my PhD in astrophysics. Only, in Star Trek's future, my job would be, I dunno, useful.

Because a computer can't be creative.

Yeah, but the person giving the specs of the clothes to the computer can be as creative. And there's no need to get things altered - throw the old one in the matter reclamation unit and simply replicate something of the same specs that actually fits. Sure beats waiting for Garak to get off his ass and hem your pants.

No, I don't think so. Many people don't want to be creative. Others just are not that creative. Even in the future people will want others to create new clothes.

Have we ever seen someone custom make anything in a replicator other than ingredient amounts in food? I would assume that items in replacators have to be made in real life and then scanned in. So the clothes available in the replicator are off the rack sizes. Depending on how the relicator works it may not be possible to tell it to lengthen the sleves by 5 cm.

My take is that it's a pain in the ass to measure your own clothes WHILE your wear them.

Garak (and tailors generally) aren't paid for actual SEWING, but rather for providing accurate measurements and fashion advice.

It's not like Garak goes into the back and PHYSICALLY makes your suit. He determines your exact measurements and critiques your proposals, then feeds it all into the replicator.

For the most part, you're paying for the service, not the product.

Assuming I'd ever get accepted into Starfleet, either by enlisting or through SF Academy then a position somewhere in the Operations division might be something I'd see myself do, or I might just end up in Admin like I'm doing just now. Or if I didin't get into Starfleet then if I'm in the same mindsetr there as I am here where I have no idea of own potential then it could be a toss up between Admin, retail (if they still exist) or some sort of customer service work, I wonder if they would still have Cab drivers in the 24th century.

I'd be an accountant, if there's still $$$... or at least someone who works in the transactions of trading good and services

I'm an accountant in real life...but I'd hate being one in the Trek Universe.

Although there is something to be said for messing with the Klingons' heads like Quark did in every accountant's favorite episode: The House of Quark.
