Just to be...normal

We can't all be officers, or heroes, so I ask you this....

If you were just, well, you, in Star Trek's future, what 'normal' career you have seen in an episode or movie could you see your self doing...

And I don't mean 'space pirate con man' like Mudd, or 'collector of cool things' like that whacko from TNG...what normal career would it be...

Bartender at Quarks or some other bar...A dabo girl? Some paper pusher at some run-of-the-mill starbase...Landscape technician (gardener)...those kinds of jobs...

Dude Im a city worker...

Id probably be a Starfleet Quartermaster or shop parts guy or something.

"Yeah yeah Capt Picard... youll get the new warp coils when they come in. These things take time and Im due for my break. Talk to Petty Officer Joe tomorrow at 1500. But I still think itll take 6-8 weeks."

Whatever job I have it would probably be a job where I piss people off and make wasting time my primary daily accomplishment.

Correctional officer.

Even though it's supposed to be a perfect world, I would hope they still have some law enforcement agencies around.

'Normal' is overrated and blown out of proportion.
I'm quite frankly sick of the word in question.
The idea of 'fitting in' or be 'normal' really repels me.

As for what type of career I'd do ...
Dunno really ... with the limitless options at my disposal, I'd definitely first want to pursue my own dreams in art and so forth ... while expanding my current technical knowledge in the process and ask around for the possibilities of getting a high profile shuttle or a runabout sized ship suitable for exploration.
:-)
I'd probably be able to find some like-minded people for space exploration, and I don't think I'd have a command structure per see on it.
Rather to be precise, people who are good at what they do, would work in their fields and we'd help each other.

Trading, exploring, getting better ships and all sounds like fun ... a dangerous one but still fun.

I'd be an accountant, if there's still $$$... or at least someone who works in the transactions of trading good and services

A salesman, like maybe in a, uh, haberdasher, or maybe like a, uh, um... a chapeau shop or something. You know, like, "Would you... what size do you wear, sir?"

Seriously though, I have a feeling a lot of us would end up in IT, regardless of the century.

:techman:

Sales as well as production of one of kind products and services that can't be be produced by a replicator or holodeck. Federation Colonists would probably specialize in mining and farming professions. Medical practice would be in demand as well. We don't know what it will be like. 400 years ago, as an example, barbers were physicians and there were the village wise women/midwives. If those back then were to see the various medical specialties and satellite professions they wouldn't believe it.

I enjoy being a teacher in the real world, so I imagine I'd want to do that in the Trekiverse. I just hope by then they'd pay teachers more.
