Just Star Trek?

Well the new poster is out and it would seem to indicate that the new movie as rumored may just be called 'Star Trek' how many of you belive this will indeed be the case when the movie is released or might it yet be something else?

Will the new movie just be called "Star Trek" ? Vote Below.

Star Trek
No subtitle
No number
To paraphrase Scotty.... No bloody A, B, C, D, or E !

I suppose it's always possible that TNPTB may decide on a (fill in the blank). Given that the film won't be out for another year and some change, there could be many changes during the course of production and in the subsequent marketing.

It will be just called Star Trek. It starts the series fresh, and people won't wonder if this is a continuing story of the last film. They'll be able to go into the movie with no knowledge of any episode.

Nah, it'll just be "Star Trek."

And very likely, any sequels will avoid numbering altogether and stick to subtitles.

Or if they add anything after Star Trek, it should be either Star Trek: To Bodly go...., Or Star Trek: Where No Man Has Gone Before. Those are phrases that are universly recognized. Even if the person has not seen one episode of Trek, they've all heard of "Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship..Enterprise. It's mission: To Explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To bodly go where no man has gone before..." I bet any one of those lines could go after the : It would be neat if they could get a lenticular poster for Star Trek like Spider-Man 3 got. Those were awesome! One could change from Zachary Quinto, to Leonard Nimoy. :vulcan:

Just Star Trek.

I wonder how seriously they considered removing Star Trek from the title and using something completely different but yet still recognizable (ala The Dark Knight for Batman Begins 2)?

After Enterprise (and Star Trek: Enterprise) I doubt they would have done this. If they had, though, what might they have chosen? I think something like "Boldly Go" or "These Are The Voyages" would have been a bit too silly.

You know, as of right now, I have to disagree with that. Yes, we know that you probably don't need to go into this movie w/o any knowledge of any past episode/movie, but I highly doubt the general public will. They might see the poster and go "Another one?"

I also doubt any "continuing story" wonderment aspect will play that much of a factor, as every Star Trek movie since 1989 has been a standalone story w/o any real-needed backstory. The possibility of it might deter a potential movie goer.

How the general public will respond will be how the film is fully marketed. Will they play up the "First Adventure Of Kirk and Spock" angle (if that is, indeed, what the movie is about). If they do the whole "This is where Star Trek begins" kinda thing like they did with Bond and Batman, then, I think, the general movie audience will be more open to it.

Just my 2 cents.

I think they toyed with that idea with Nemesis, as well.

In any event, dumping "Star Trek" in favor of another title that is associated with Star Trek, I think, would be a mistake. There really isn't a name for the franchise that the general public will associate it with that doesn't sound too "goofy" for a movie title. The only one that might work, in my opinion, would be "Enterprise," but, from a franchise standpoint, it would be a misstep as people might start getting it confused with the TV series. And that would cause the general public to veer away.

"I hear one of the Star Trek shows was called "Enterprise." Is this movie based on that show? I never saw it. I won't know whats going on."

Just my 2 cents.

I kinda liked...

"Star Trek: Alpha & Omega"

I remember this being one of the rumors back at the end of last year.

It kinda follows with the supposed over-all storyline of having the young and old versions of the characters, as well as kinda describing having the Original and New actors playing the characters.

And I still think (hope) that part of the movie plot revolves around Spock finding a way to either save Kirk from dying or bringing him back from a somewhat useless death.

Something, that the two of them discovered back in their younger days (this will be the main portion of the movie) that Spock uses to accomplish that goal.

And all the stuff that's being bandied around now about Shatner NOT being in the movie is just T(New)PTB way of throwing "US" off the track of the truth.

I don't think that's clear. What is clear is that they don't have a title yet, or at least haven't settled on a title that wouldn't give away the story. Until they are ready to tell us that, we only need to know that it's Star Trek.

Well, we know that the script Nimoy is so enthusiastic about is in no way structured around trying to resurrect old Kirk.

We know this because Shatner has not been signed and Abrams has said that they're looking for a way to include him that would be "meaningful."

If, in fact, their movie was conceived with the return of old Kirk as part of the story they wouldn't have to be looking for a way to include him in order to satisfy his fans.
