Just saw my first DS9

This an old old thread to revive, but I finished DS9 and never gave my thoughts. My favorite characters were quark odo. I had my mind blown when I saw the dominion, I was sad when I saw the finale for the series and I hated the kai, but I never expected the kirra odo relationship. All in All that show blew my mind and I wish I could relive the feelings of never seeing it before...I finished it two years ago and have intermittently watched it since, maybe I will start over again soon.

I've been trying to get one of my old sci-fi/StarTrek friends to give DS9 a chance for years (he only caught a few episodes from the first season or two back in the old days), but sitting down and planning to watch all 7 seasons is way too daunting of a commitment timewise for him to agree to.

Wait 'til you get past the first couple of seasons. It gets REALLY good...
I know I'm in the minority, but I'm of the opposite opinion. I thought "Emissary" was fantastic at the time, then it was all downhill from there. I stopped watching DS9 entirely during its fifth season, though I eventually saw the rest. Aside from "Emissary," "Trials and Tribble-ations," and maybe "In the Pale Moonlight," I really don't intend to ever watch the show again (which is exactly three more episodes than the number of VOY and ENT episodes I'll ever watch again.)

But again, I'm in the minority. :)

I'm halfway through season 3. This is my first time watching Deep Space Nine. I have to say I really like the way they play the religious aspect into it. I'm a religious person, but in a way that I love to explore alternative forms of religion and culture. I wish we could see more forms of human religion in Star Trek.

I didn't like DS9 when I first saw it but I came around to it when I saw it later on Spike TV. It's my second favorite Trek and the most rewatchable now.

It definitely aged the best out of the Treks, but only because other Treks were more rooted in the cultural mindset of the time. But I think the best written TNG and TOS episodes are better than the best written DS9 episodes.

Also to enjoy certain aspects of the show, like the Ferengi episodes you have to be in a certain mindset where you can root for the kind of person you wouldn't normally root for because it's fun.

DS9 also removes the most attractive aspect of Trek to a lot of people, the optimism and heroism. Some would say replacing optimism with grim realism is a positive, but it makes far less of a statement to tell everybody what they already know, people suck, than to refute the argument as TOS and TNG do.

so I just saw my first deep space nine epsiode ever, WOW it was pretty sweet, I liked it a lot better then the preimer of TNG. Looking forward to watching the rest of the seasons.

Keep watching, you will enjoy it more and more.:)

DS9 is my favourite Trek. Well thought out, well written, well acted, well developed. The slightly darker tone made it feel more real, as well as the fact they couldn't just fly off at the end, they had to stick around and see the consequences of their acts.

It also brought us Kira Nerys, my favourite Trek character :)

Thank you DS9!
