Just how is the June 12th change-over (in the US) happening?

We've heard for months that as of June 12th analog broadcast TV is going the way of the dinosaur.

Okay.

Fine.

WHAT does that mean?

Does it mean the final minute of analog begins at 11:59pm on the night of June 11th, or will the 12th be the last day, with the final minute being 11:59pm on the night of the 12th?

Does it mean something else, as in "they can shut off any time they want on the 12th"? I don't think so, because some stations have already discontinued their analog broadcast entirely, some even doing it months ago.

I have cable, but also use an antenna. Suppose just waiting to see how it'll happen is an option, but it'd be better to know ahead of time. (Gotta rescan with those converter boxes, you know, in case a station changes frequencies at the change-over!)

Anyone know for sure?

For all but a couple of million, no one will really notice. Just like you mentioned, maybe a rescan. The three local network Channels are going for midnight tonight

It looks like it will be happening gradually all day today, from dtv.gov above

Channel numbers of many stations will be changing today. Be sure to rescan for channel changes today and tomorrow.

Just an after thought, my local channels have been broadcasting in both formats for a couple for years now. I've talked to some people who haven't even used analog for many months now.

For most, there is no change over today at all.
