Just had a thought - stardates in DSC?

So, ENT used dates, TOS' stardates were in the low 4-digits. I'm guessing that DSC will use actual dates? Unless they retcon all that.

..Universal translators?

Right answer: because the intent is to provide the audience with information rather than to obfuscate and confuse.

In fact, the original reason for TOS's weird stardates was precisely to avoid providing the audience with information. Over the decades it transpired that this hadn't worked; there was real insistence on knowing when Trek events occurred. A specific year for the adventures of the TNG crew was finally given onscreen during the first season of TNG, and later producers, script writers and researchers developed an entire chronology from this first bit of information.

Trek isn't a documentary being shot in the future. There are no universal translators, and there is no such thing as a "stardate" system - there are only real Earth dates or manufactured gibberish.

Why would multi star system alliance use an earth based date system?

Because the multi star system alliance isn't the viewing audience. Just like how Saru speaks English because his race isn't the viewing audience.
