Just got FIOS Quantum installed by racist FIOS installer guy.

I was originally going to post this in Science & Technology but the install took a weird sidetrack.

Just moved and while we had FIOS at our old location, decided to upgrade to the new FIOS Quantum, 75Mbps Up and 35Mbps Down. The FIOS install arrived and started to hook everything up, while doing this we got to talking about things, nothing specific. Sports, weather and such. I don't know if it was about being two White guys alone together or what, he just went off on a racist rant. While I don't want to get into the specifics of what he said, he made me wholly uncomfortable. I tried to steer the conversation away from where he obviously wanted to go, yet we circled right back. So I had to tell him to stop, it was a very weird for the rest of the install. Luckily enough it was towards the end and he rushed right out after it was done. I thought about complaining to Verizon but in the end, what would really come of it. Hopefully he learned his lesson enough with dealing with me.

Now lets talk about FIOS Quantum, I'm getting great speed. On Verizon's Test Speed website I'm getting 81Mbps Up and 36Mbps Down. I tried a few other speed website, I got an average of 77 to 80 Mbps Down and 35 to 36 Mbps Up, however I did get one 29 repeatedly on one site.

You should report it. Not just because you had to listen to it yourself, which is completely unprofessional on his part, but because Verizon would not want this guy out there representing their product. If you think they gave you a good product, then you'd be doing them a favor by pointing out a bad employee. Who knows what this idiot is doing to customers he's bigoted against? Poorly installing their product?

That being said, having negotiated the treacherous waters of Verizon customer service before, I do not envy you the journey ahead if you decide to report it, as you should.

Are you sure about that? Driving away customers does seem to be the one thing they are actually good at.

Not in my experience. I've had their service for a few years and I'm quite happy with it. :)

As for the OP's issue, I've had stuff like that happen to me, too. It's like when you get a few white guys together, they just think everyone's a good ol' boy. I usually just try to get out of the situation quickly, because I know I'm not going to "cure" someone's racism, and I just don't want to be around that garbage anyway.

Last time I had something like that happen was with a taxi driver. He just started going on about immigrants, and how things had changed for the worse in recent years, yadda yadda...

Of course what was interesting was that he was South Asian himself. His view appeared to be 'in my day people came from India or Pakistan wanting to work hard, now they just expect a free ride.'

It was uncomfortable, but strangly not as uncomfortable as it would have been if he'd been white.

I think I see his point though - a white bigoted racist douche would naturally assume another white guy was also a bigoted racist douche...

Was he complaining about Indians and Pakistanis like himself or other immigrants who didn't share a common origin with him?

I had to return my old FIOS equipment today and was really tempted to report the installer. However in the end, I just didn't do it. Wasn't sure how to even address it with the CSR that was helping me.

I had multiple cable options at my last place, and when the promo deal ran out with RCN, I figured I'd switch to Verizon FIOS.

The installer was there all afternoon, the line from the telephone pole to the house fell across the drive way, and not knowing if it was live, I called Verizon, and no one showed up. I eventually called the local police who got them out there. During the install, I commented that it must be quite a drive back home after this job as I was near Boston and he lived in southern NH. He said, well, I gotta work hard, I got 3 kids in private school. I don't want them hanging around all those blacks and Jews. He also kept calling me buddy and pal, as opposed to sir or mister.

Half my family is Jewish, so I didn't take kindly to that. I reported him to his supervisor about all of his fuckups, and switched back to the old cable company the next day.

It definitely should have been reported, otherwise it's a free pass for that person to do it again. Not only was that installer unprofessional, he was offensive to a customer who he believes shares his racist beliefs.
