So... this thread inspired me to go get Jurassic Park 3D. It looks great. They've really given it a lot of love. There's bigger and better sound and there's quite a lot of depth.
A digital master is a scan of the original film negative on the computer (or of another copy of the film, hopefully closely descended from it). Typically processed to make it look as close to the theatrical presentation as possible. What I mean with upscaling by studios, is when the remaster isn't actually using the original material to create a HD version, but simply digitally remastering.
There is a non 3D remaster (called "Ultimate Trilogy" box, the comparison pictures Tosk linked to) out there, it's absolutely brilliant.
I still have no idea what you are trying to say, or how this has anything to do with upscaling.
You're completely wrong here. There is a good chance that I got this wrong, but I've understood that a lot of blurays of older movies out there, are just the dvd-version digitally remastered to a higher resolution. No original sourcematerial used, just a sort of 'upgrading' of the resolution and some enhancements.
Now, like I said, I could be completely wrong here, since my knowledge on this is somewhat limited.
