June Challenge Theme: "Let Us Now Try Liberty"

Rush Limborg

Vice Admiral

All Righty, folks!

First off: Thanks to TheLoneRedshirt for this opportunity.

NOW--as you know, it's less than a month until the Fourth Of July, the American Independence Day. Since the challenge will end around that time...I thought it would be appropriate to get into the spirit of things.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is as follows:

Write a story in the Star Trek Universe dealing with the theme of liberty. Possible questions to be dealt with: What does it mean? What does it entail?

Perhaps it's some person or people achieving liberty for the first time--perhaps it's the regaining of freedom--or whatever!

It can be the liberty of an individual, it can be the liberty of a group, it can be the liberty of a society--doesn't matter. It can be inspiring, it can be somber, it can be thought-provoking. It can be whatever you wish, with "liberty" and "freedom" as the central idea.

Here are the Rules:

Let's be generous...a 7,000 word limit.

Please, do not reuse a tale previously posted in TrekBBS.

Please do not plagiarize--the stories must be your own work.

It must be in the Star Trek universe, with Star Trek characters - any era you wish. You may use established canon, the TrekLit chronology, and your own fanfic.

Post a link to your story on this thread, when you've finished it.

The submission deadline will be: Sunday, July 3, 11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time.

Voting will take place July 4-8. There will be a run-off, if there's a tie.

As Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) would say, "Souuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuund GOOD?!?"

Ooooooooh...I know some of my characters who would LOVE to get in on the action for this one! Now to come up with a story idea...

I'm tempted to play this time round - maybe as a one-off - with characters I've been playing with when a mate challenge me to come up with an Abrams-verse tv-series.
