June Challenge: "The Combadge"

"Klingons? where?"

"Over there. And over there. I think you boys have had enough to drink."

Seriously, though, I believe in the utopian Trek but only on Earth, where it is easy to live in paradise. The rest of the galaxy is in turmoil, which is why my fanfics show a dark side to Trek -- admittedly not as dark as my fellow United Trekkers -- but also the threads running through them are intended to portray the fact that light can shine through the darkness and will always win out in the end, even if it takes a while.

I just wanted to post a quick "thank you" to those people who recommended Over There. I'm about half-way through the series, and I'm very impressed. This was a top-notch production.

But that said...I'm really not surprised that it was cancelled after just thirteen episodes. The whole tone of the series is relentlessly downbeat. It makes nuBSG seem almost cheerful by comparison.

I like downbeat, and the tone suits the subject matter. But I can understand why its ratings were low. I think most people watch TV to escape from reality--not to have their noses rubbed in it.

Agreed. I only caught the first few episodes but I also thought it was a great show. Another problem might have been that it was a little too topical. People are not used to watch shows about wars that are still taking place, especially if they are so unpopular.

Yeah, it was a downer at times but after the first one or two eps I found myself just shaking my head as the episodes ended, going "Wow. F---ing, wow!" The whole series reminded me of the China Beach ep about the Tet Offensive-where the candy-striper steps on the mine....
