Yeah I read that article on that site., and also on this site. I'm so excited about the new realase date that I can't wait! I have been waiting for this momnet to arive. Whoooohooo!

Actually I'd be very, very surprised if they did use him, but I just couldn't resist the pun.
i guess they pushed it back to add to the 'suspense'.
Would you rather have them pump out a movie every single year like Saw and Police Academy?
I thought that was actually kinda fast...but I can't wait! 
I wish we didnt have to wait so long, but Im really looking forward to it. Will have to check out some of the new books set in the alternate universe to keep me going until the new movie is out.

Most of the audience goodwill and excitement garnered by Trek XI will have been well lost in the ether of time by June 2012.
There's no reason they couldn't have Trek XII made within the next 18 months. We all know Kurtzman and Orci don't take much longer than a few months to write one of their hack scripts, and if JJ can't make himself available because he has other things to do, then the directing duties should be given to Nick Meyer.
We have to remember that as XI was ready to be released Dec 2008 but that Paramount decided to can it for 6 months, how much older are the main cast going to look between films? Chris Pike may well have naturally morphed in to Shatner by 2011, weight gain, wig and all.

^You seem to have answered your own complaint. It was NOT a quickly done, hack script, yet you complain that they are taking too long this time?! There is nothing like trying to have it both ways so you have an excuse to complain.
So three years are going to pass between movies? Sheesh. Way to ride that high wave of praise!

You know, Trek XI itself began development at least three years before its release. The first rumours began in April 2006, with an official greenlight a few months after.
Trek XII got a greenlight in April 2009, so a release in 2012 seems completely normal.
So why doesn't everyone just calm down and wait three years like you did last time?

they're making ANOTHER? they shouldn't push it. Bond has had his run. (Unless JJ reboots THAT too

In fact, old Trek died in 2005.
Can't wait for Star Trek 2 in 2012.
That said, three years is probably a good interval between installments - the studio doesn't need to overload the market for this thing the way they did in the 1990s.
