Jumpsuit question

I remember Lt. Kyle wore a red version of the jumpsuit, and of course all those pics have a blue version. Is there a jumpsuit in command green/gold? I can't remember seeing one...

I always thought it would have been neat if Scotty had worn one from time to time. It would have given his character sort of a working man's "getting his hands dirty" vibe.

I suppose they did in the film series. He spends most of them wearing either a radiation suit or his waistcoat with toolbelt. I always wondered why he wore a white command turtleneck when in the waistcoat and the ochre one when wearing his bomber jacket or tunic.
Yeah, his duty undershirt color should have been the same after Star Trek IV, IMO.

I can't think of a plausible reason why it would change from one uniform to another unless white is the standard color for all chief engineers when wearing the waistcoat.

In "Mirror, Mirror."

Uhura wore a red jumpsuit at one point in the show when she's doing repairs to her console, IIRC.
It was blue for some reason And worn over her Red uniform.

Which means Uhura wore all three colors. I think she's the only "regular" to do so.

Ah, I stand corrected.;)

Just a fandom thought: I wonder if Uhura was going the command route (wearing yellow, initially) then decided to remain in Communications. It would explain why she not only can navigate the ship, but can handle communications....as well as the science(?) station...

My fandom idea about her wearing the blue jumpsuit is that there were simply no jumpsuits in her color, since other crew probably took jumpsuits for their own tasks.

 I have no clue. But I did mention how confusing this was on a thread of mine, if you wish to read what everybody answered. :)

Didn't Spock wear a dark green jumpsuit in "This Side of Paradise"?

Also, I do not recall if Kirk ever wore a Starfleet-issue jumpsuit. (He obviously wore a non-Starfleet jumpsuit in "What Are Little Girls Made Of?".

The wider variety of uniforms and work clothes in earlier episodes added to the verisimilitude that was missing in later ones. They just clearly try so much harder in the first season than in later ones and beyond the writing and the directing.

Verisimillitude, eh? I tend to agree.

I wish we had seen more of this, throughout the entire series.

Lots of green jumpsuits--like Fields in "Balance of Terror:"

I seem to recall a couple of transporter officers using it, I think.

Also, the jumpsuit is a holdover from "The Cage" as several technician type characters were seen wearing them. I believe that even in the regular season runs had the original UESPA logo still on the pocket. I think.

I suppose the reason could be that he is promoted to Captain in The Search for Spock. Morrow specifically refers to him as Captain of Engineering. Perhaps there's some regulation about anyone holding the rank of Captain being entitled to wear the white command shirt.

But, when he appears in the rest of the films in full uniform, his shirt is gold, not the command white. Unless the concept is to distinguish him from the rest of the engineers wearing the waistcoat. I could understand that, as a quick visual reference to see who is in charge.

The shirt color doesn't seem to really reflect a person's long-term career path, it's more about where their current assignment is. As to what division communications falls under, the lines seem to have been fuzzy early-on: Uhura was in gold once, of course, then in "The Conscience of the King" Mr. Riley was said to be in the communications section and transferred to engineering wearing gold, while Uhura was in her standard red. Personally I would think communications would fit better with "command" than "engineering/services," like an operations department would in real life, but the rules for that sort of thing seem fairly loose.
