Remember
back in May, we told you that a reboot/reimagining/re-whatever of
Judge Dredd was in the works, and this time in
3D? Well, the project, with an estimated budget of “under $50 million”
officially has its star, and his name is
Karl Urban (sorry it’s nobody black, if that’s what you were hoping
).
The original (loosely based on the comic book), made in 1995, starred
Sylvester Stallone in the title role, was panned by critics (15% Fresh rating on
RottenTomatoes.com), and a box office failure, making just over $34 million domestically, on a $90 million budget!
The story, in short… Dredd is a law enforcement officer in a future-set violent city, where uniformed Judges operate as police, judge, jury and executioner.
Karl Urban
has indeed been confirmed for the leading role of the Judge, after rumors circulated that he might be the chosen one, with shooting swith shooting scheduled to begin in South Africa some time soon, “with the people who did
District 9".
