Joss Whedon to direct The Avengers

When are they supposed to start filming? If The Cape is a hit, she probably couldn't do both unless she's willing to work 20 hours a day like Clooney did when he was on ER. But since she's not Clooney, I doubt either the movie or the TV show would bend over backward to accommodate her.
I think they start filming early next year.

As long as he doesn't write it.

Whedon's involvement is probably about the only reason I am interested in this production. Hopefully it comes out at the same time as that non-Joss Buffy film, and the Avengers thrashes it at the box office.

Now if it were the British Avengers, with John Steed and Emma Peel, directed and written by Joss Whedon, I'd be there at the cinema in a heartbeat! ;)

Avenger's Assemble! aka suck on it DC

Random musings...

Who will be leader of the Avengers? Why would Captain America be team leader in this film incarnation of The Avengers? If Cap has just been rescued from that block of ice and revived, then he still has so much to learn about the 21st century and the new world in which he finds himself. His knowledge deficit will be a liability for some period of time.

Thor would not lead either. He might know even less about 21st century Earth than Captain America. Thor has never been official leader of the Avengers in the comic books (even though, oddly enough, he has led whole Asgardian armies against threats to the realm many times).

Iron Man, as played by Robert Downey Jr., did not want to be part of Nick Fury's superhero team. However, by the time of The Avengers, Iron Man may well possess the most experience when it comes to dealing with threats to the world. If the other heroes are not capable, then perhaps Iron Man has no choice but to be the first leader of The Avengers.

Since Cap is basically a born leader anyway, my guess is that one of the issues during the movie will be that since Steve has only recently been unthawed and isn't familiar with how things work in the 21st century, some members of the team might not really think he's capable of leading them, but by the end of the movie he'll prove himself/assert himself as the true leader of the Avengers.

That's just my guess, though. Dunno if they'll actually go that route.

Yeah he does and Nick Fury will guide and mentor the Ultimates...errrrr Avengers and I assume that Iron Man will be field leader until the end of the movie when Chris Evans exclaims Avengers Assemble!
