Joseph Fiennes and Eva Green cast in Camelot TV series

Hope it's actually good and not tween bullshit like that Merlin thing a little while ago.

Speaking of Merlin, I really liked that Sam Neil miniseries from way back when. That was fun. The more recent sequel/reboot/whatever the hell they did was shit, but the original was sweet.
The Merlin you're referring to is actually still running. It's a BBC show and has been renewed for a third season. NBC aired the first season in the US. Syfy is currently airing the second season.

In fact, as it happens, there's a new episode on in ten minutes . . . .

Fiennes' standard performance is heavy on intensity/brooding; he's not the most exciting actor out there, though in certain roles he can be very good (Shakespeare in Love, for instance, though Paltrow ultimately overshadowed him there).

I'll give you the brooding, but I didn't find the intensity convincing.

Well if they are going with Camelot in the name I guess we can rule out an adaption of Cornwell's Warlord Trilogy.

bit of a tangent but has any one else seen the Arthurian adaption done in the U.K in 1979 which hard Andrew Burt (later to B7 as Jarvik in Harvest of Kiros and Doctor Who as Valguard in Terminus) as Arthur?

Set during the 6th Century and quite enjoyable though I missed the final episode.

I just hope it's more akin to "Excalibur" than "Merlin" there have been some disappointing takes on the legend on screen since John Boorman's classic. @Greg Cox regarding "Camelot 3000" I once came across a script that a friend of mine sent me entitled "Future King AKA Camelot 3000" which was an aborted film adaption. It was missing some pages but I enjoyed it and was pretty faithful to the graphic novel.

^ I just hope it isn't akin to the previous "Camelot". We actually showed bits from the film to our Medieval Lit. students this semester--basically saying, no matter how tedious you might find some of the original texts, it could be far, far worse...

Seriously, though--Spartacus was by far the best thing on TV this year. If they can recapture that magic in an Arthurian setting, I'd be thrilled.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Reboot Highlander series with Joseph Fiennes. I swear he looks like both Adrian Paul snd Christopher Lambert combined. Love child perhaps?

I've yet to see "Spartacus" it seems to capture that HBO Rome feel which if "Camelot" is anything like I'll be happy.

Can't say I'm very excited about that kid from the Prisoner remake playing King Arthur of all people...

Well who says he's the square-jawed hero type? Maybe he's a decadent weakling. Who knows what the real Arthur was like, assuming there ever was a real Arthur.

I'd like to see Starz just frak around with Arthurian legend and do something different. The usual approach has been done to death. Give it a reboot!

I haven't watched it, but it sounds like a lot of fun, that's probably going to be the philosophy behind Camelot - above all, be entertaining! And what else is TV for, really?
Reboot Highlander series with Joseph Fiennes

No, that's the wrong type of role for him again. Too heroic. Fiennes is a Merlin, not an Arthur (going by the traditional archetypes).

Spartacus is actually like a freaky science experiment that somehow spliced together Rome & 300 into Spartacus.

The battle/fight scenes and blood and filming style is straight out of 300. But the political plotting/backstabbing/etc... more reminiscent of Rome.

Hmmm. Interested but also disinterested by this casting. Joseph Fiennes has never impressed me-and he's been given several serious parts to do so. I don't know who two of them even are, and then you get a big name like Eva Green tossed in there.

I like Merlin, but it is a family show. And while I want to see a proper Arthurian ala LOTR movie, I don't want this Camelot to be boiled down in the sex and juice of The Tudors or the bad dialogue of Spartucus in an attempt to make modern folks 'relate'. If you create your mythos within the legends and tell your tale to the best of your ability we can relate just fine wihtout modern crap being veiled over and tossed in.

Anyone ready to start a Game of Thrones versus Camelot debate yet? I'll tune into Thrones for Bean, but if the rest doesn't grab me once he's gone so be it. If Camelot doesn't make a good go at the start, audiences will also tune out there. Have we jumped the historical medieval fantastical shark yet?

Well, the sex and debauchery in Spartacus aren't "modern" stuff being "tossed in"; it's a pretty good representation of actual Ancient Roman vaues. And there's plenty of sex and debauchery in the Arthurian myths. Heck, Arthur himself was the product of a rape, since Merlin magically disguised Uther as Igraine's husband so he could have his way with her.

HBO vs Starz? Game of Thrones ftw. Camelot is going to be a silly sleazefest.

'What is a sleazefest'
A three-day bandfest held every August at Local 506 in Chapel Hill, NC. Originally conceived of by members of the music community (notably Southern Culture on the Skids), Sleazefest pays homage to rockabilly, garage, and other musical varieties with a distinguished eye. See www.sleazefest.com for more info.

Something real.

I said the dialogue in Spartacus was bad, not the attempt at historically accurate sex. Are you trying to contradict me in every thread now? Not only did I think the modern talk was way too much in Spartacus, but it is also a little iffy that we are looking at sex slaves and the rape the show portrays as entertainment. I found the show completely off putting and I seriously hope Camelot doesn't end up in the same bad mix of 300 and Rome.

I'm hoping that it's written well and the soap opera style story lines are kept to a minimum at least. I don't think it's fair to make a comparison or suggest that "Game of Thrones" and "Camelot" will compete with each other for viewers, etc. I'll start that after a few episodes of both.

I don't react to people, I react to statements. If I see an assertion that I read as factually inaccurate, I will post a response to clarify the facts. Who made the statement is irrelevant to me. And forgive me, but I have no idea who you are; your username is just another random collection of letters and numbers to me, not standing out from all the others in that vein, and I'm not familiar with the performer in your avatar so that doesn't stand out from the crowd for me either. So I have no reason to single you out for criticism. Sometimes I misread a statement and assume it's saying something it isn't; if I misconstrued your intent, I apologize. But as I recall, the statement was ambiguous as to its intent. You did reference the sexuality in a different show as part of the "modern" impositions in the same sentence in which you mentioned Spartacus, so while you did not overtly link the sex in Spartacus to your criticism, a reader could reasonably construe your statement as implicitly doing so.
