Jon Hamm's Superhero Role

'Video not available' in my location. Could you please tell those of us who can't see it what it's all about?

No, not available outside of the US. But at least there's a description what it's all about.

Hopefully this one doesn't have US-only viewing restrictions:

I thought it was great. I tuned in because they said there was going to be a cartoon by Robert Smigel, but I was not expecting the live-action bit at all. That was hilarious.

They had a nice little Daily Show reunion with Helms, Carrell, and Colbert. I was surprised they didn't just have Carrell and Colbert play Ace and Gary (since they do their voices), but it was worth it to get Jon Hamm and to a lesser extent Jimmy Fallon instead.

This was better. Not only do Colbert and Carrell also voice the villains (so they needed to expand the cast anyway) but it gave the show a chance to parody the whole "cast the big name guy in a superhero movie" thing.

Is there any particular reason why you decided to be so obtuse and not just say it, but rather post useless link after useless link?

It was just John Hamm and Jimmy Fallon as the Ambiguously Gay Duo. It was kinda funny, good thing I had modify headers installed - i'd have been pissed if I went out of my way to watch it.

You mean besides the fact that letting people discover a joke on their own is typically more fun for them that simply describing it?

I posted two links: one to the video itself which, it appears, some people can't open. Per the request of another poster, I then posted a link to a story describing the video so people who couldn't open it could at least see what it was about.

Given the nature of the video, and the general prohibition at this site against spoilers you would have really preferred I openly describe the gag instead of telling people where they could see it?

Maybe you should do something about the enormous cyber worm up your ass. ;)

Maybe we can continue this thread without this sort of remark?
I am happy that you posted a thread with 'just a link' for a reason, which you have outlined in this post. However, neither being annoyed nor smilies make personal sniping OK.

Checkmate, the same applies to you. Tone it down, and if you're just coming in the thread to snipe, stay out of it.

Sorry. I figured the reference to cyberworm (which should have been eel, actually, now that I think of it) and ass, given the subject of the thread, demonstrated there was no actual malice.

It took me forever to figure out that was Steve Carrell as Doctor Big Head  I didn't realize how short he was!

I'm almost certain that he's not. Take a look at this pic of him standing next to Colbert. They're the same height, whereas in the video Colbert appears to be much taller.

I think they shot it with forced perspective and other tricks to make Carrell look that short.

Good to hear :bolian: (well, read)
So now it's not only okay to start threads with nothing but a not-even-functioning link (which poor Dusty whoever gets constant warnings for) as long as you claim it's a "joke," but it's okay to make personal snipes if you claim a lack of malice, too? Fascinating. I'm going to have to link to these posts in my signature, just to make sure you remember how much of a hypocrite you people are.

(No malice intended, of course. See, a smiley face: :) )

Nope. The link still works, at least within the U.S. And when someone told me that the link didn't work everywhere I posted a follow-up with a description of the video so people would at least know what I was talking about without having the skit spoiled.

That was great.

I love TV Funhouse. It's a shame the TV Funhouse show never worked out (in fairness, the live action stuff wasn't that great), because Smigel's cartoons are really special.
