John Malkovich has confirmed that he is set to play The Vulture in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4, which has been recently delayed. Malkovich goes on to say that he isn't confirmed, and is waiting for a new draft of the script to be delivered.

Sony recently delayed the film, originally scheduled for a May 5th, 2011 release, because of creative differences. Allegedly Sony does not want a second tier villain like The Vulture, but Raimi does. I guess this also gives some validity to the rumor that Anne Hathaway is slated to play a new character called The Vulturess in the film.

Thoughts? I guess if Spider-Man 4 moves forward, Malkovich as Vulture will be the villain.

I'm still burned that Venom and Sandman got a bad showcase in Spider-Man 3. Can't say that I'm really feeling all that enthusiastic about The Vulture or Spider-Man 4 in general. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised if I have lowered expectations...

So Malkovich has confirmed that he is unconfirmed.

I feel very good yet not good at all that he will be an excellent albeit awful Vulture.

He wouldn't have been my first choice, but he'll be okay.

I'm just a little concerned that he's becoming too familiar as the villain in fantasy movies- often in second rate ones (Eragorn? The Mutant Chronicles?). Alfred Molina and Thomas Hayden Church brought something new to their roles and while we'd all seen Willem Dafoe as a bad guy before the first movie, he was such a perfect fit for GG that we could overlook this.

^Agreed. Especially if played in Sexy Beast mode. Mind you, that might be a bit too scary for a mainstream blockbuster ...

^^^
Kingsley does fit the comic visual + he has acting chops.
I can handle Malkovich in the role and besides who's to say they don't go with his comic look and shave his head.

As to Vulture being a 2nd tier villian?! What, he's a top tier Spidey baddie, someone needs to get their facts right. Any top 10 list would include Vulture & the top 10 is 1st tier.

I hope that Anne Hathway Vultress thing is wrong however.

Does he not have one of those hairstyles where he has a ringlet of hair around his lower head, ala Picard? Maybe I'm thinking of a movie he had a wig or something.

^ Well, all bald men have some hair at the sides of their head, unless they have some medical disorder that causes it all to fall out, such as alopecia. Even the likes of Yul Brynner or Telly Savalas were only bald on top and had to shave it round the sides.

Malkovich as Adrien Tooms/The Vulture is fine. I'd much rather have Sir. Ben Kingsley as The Vulture and I hope they have abandoned the reportred "Vultress" role.
