John Gill reference in Trek 11

Maybe as a passing in-joke for the hardcores... but not as a plot point.

If they had a shot at the Academy with Kirk in class, they could just happen to call the professor "Doctor Gill" and leave it at that. Most people wouldn't care at all... it would be utterly meaningless. But the hardcore among us might grin a little bit. Couldn't hurt, but won't help either.

Thankfully I need not consider myself among the hardcore, as I haven't the faintest idea who Gill (or Gilly, as I'm sure he was known back in his academy days) is.

He's the historian from "Patterns of Force", who thought Nazi Germany was a good idea.

You've got to admit, James Kirk had some distinctly dodgy rolemodels...

He should appear as a young professor with a Hitler moustache and when Kirk asks him what the hell he's thinking he says "Heil if I know!"

:rommie: :guffaw: It's late and that's probably not quite as funny as it struck me just now, but I woke up my wife by laughing out loud.

I see Kirk coming out of Gill's class as the proverbial "stack of books with legs" with Mein Kampf at the top of the stack...
