"John Carter of Mars" Moving Ahead!

I'm coming in here with no knowledge of the books, but as a newbie I'm liking what I'm seeing.
My only exposure to sword and planet stories is Leigh Brackett (who's damn good at it), but yeah, those dioramas look stranger and more exotic than the trailer. If John Carter can keep the weirdness quotient pretty high I may just enjoy this, and also I'm probably going to get around to glancing at the books.

you so need to read the series it's awesome.
if you have a nook all ten books are aviable on it.
all so if you're into comics Dynamite entertainment has three different comics:

1. warlord of mars <(which is the comic adapation of the book)
2. warlord of mars: Deja thoris <(which is set 1000 years before she meets john)
3. warlord of mars: Fall of Barsoom <(which is set 100000 in before Deja Thoris)

and then marvel is doing a prelude comic which is atrious.

I have a kindle, so I'm going to scour for any kindle versions. Since as I understand it the books are public domain, there should be something. Hope to have read at least the first three books before the film comes out (but more likely the whole thing).

I read them long long ago but don't really recall it much... I did Pellucidar and even the little-remembered Venus series back then as well, and the inner Earth was always my favorite, even read Tarzan at the Earth's Core to complete the set lol... I'll have to dig up some copies to check out as well.

I recently got the complete Tarzan series for about five bucks, I think, so you should be able to get all the Barsoom books pretty cheaply.

the Pellucidar and Venus series are very underrated. especially Pellucidar, i really enjoyed that series.

The Barsoom books are awesome - it's amazing to think they were written a century ago!

Wow, Project Gutenberg has changed since I last used it. Used to be they had everything in text or webpage and that was about it.

Never seen any Burroughs for sale at my old bookstore (which is also the source of the volume of Leigh Brackett I've got.) Granted, never looked, and it'd be an easy bet to assume Princess of Mars will have a place on the shelf in bookstores come this summer.

^^ I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. I got that set for the Nook, so I presume there's something similar available for John Carter on the Kindle.

Although a couple of years ago, SFBC put out a nice set of hardcovers collecting the complete Mars series. It might be possible to get a used set cheaply on eBay or Alibris or something.

@timothy why is the fact that Marvel is doing a prequel tie-in comic atrocious? It's being written by Peter David which is enough incentive for me to pick it up.

^Since you guys brought it up, the movie-prequel comic's first issue is now up on Comixology.

I got John Carter: World of Mars today. The art in it is fine, I've no problems with it.

Except.

Dejah Thoris is wearing way too much in the way of clothing. She's not that modest... :)

I like it too... Nice design. The last trailer was a bit bland looking, hopefully the next trailer can show more stuff like this.
