JJVerse Novels - Why they were cancelled

Unfortunately, the new movie uses the same name and typeface as the original series so there isn't an easy way to refer to the new Star Trek product. They used the old brand to sell the new product.

Star Trek: Remade? Star Trek: The Alternate Adventures?

Yes, and no. The new marketing logo was the old typeface, but given a metallic finish. IDW uses the same trick to distinguish their comics that spin out of the new film continuity. And the title card in the film itself is without the italics, so there's some distinction there, too. Plus, it's not like covers and whatnot won't feature characters/imagery consistent with the film.

I think folks will be able to navigate well enough.

Maybe they'll start putting "The Original Series" in small letters underneath the logo for the TOS stuff?
I reckon they'd rather rename all the old stuff (it's already "prime" now, but i'm not sure if Bad Robot or Internet Nerds came up with that) and keep the nice, simple "Star Trek" for the new.

If they were going to do that, they'd have done it last year with all of the merchandising that hit in the run-up to the movie's premiere. Instead, they adopted a consistent yet distinctive look for packaging with the logo, the original Enterprise and, depending on the product and the size of its packaging, Shatner and Nimoy. There was no way to confuse it with anything for the new film.

In contrast, Playmates had one of the dullest packaging schemes I've ever seen to pimp their movie-related toys.

The screenplay referred to Leonard Nimoy's character as "Spock Prime" to distinguish him from Zachary Quinto's "Spock." This usage was picked up on by reporters and fans, who broadened it to encompass "Spock Prime"'s entire timeline. It makes a convenient shorthand reference for that timeline. What I regret is that we don't have an analogous, clear consensus term for the new timeline.

Oh well..., I guess We'll just have to call it Star Trek and put up with that for another forty some-odd years.

Someone on psi-phi.org (wish I could remember who, my apologies) came up with Star Trek Alternate Reality, or STAR for short, which I just loved. Sadly only he and I ever used it.

I'm perfectly capable of conveying my thoughts without monikers, acronyms, or other shorthand. And you have to realize that this isn't an easy admission for me to make, given my employment history :D

I tend to use "the timeline with the fucking lens flares," m'self.....

What were we talking about again?

I think calling them by their original creator would clear up all the confusion. Roddenberryverse for 1966-2005 and Abramsverse for 2009+.

I doubt very much, now that the new film has come out and been widely accepted, that any new series will take place in the Roddenberryverse. I expect all new Trek made on screen from now on will take the Abramsverse movies as a starting point.

Just my opinion. YMMV

I'd prefer something that isn't so personality-dependent, and that doesn't rely on the suffix "-verse." Besides, Abrams' film is still a version of Roddenberry's creation.

Not to mention that "Roddenberryverse" is an extremely unwieldy word. "Prime timeline" or "Prime universe" is easier to say.

I wonder why it did get so personalized at all. At least from my POV, Star Trek has always been Star Trek, no matter if TOS or VOY or even ENT. Sure, people blamed Berman & Braga for a lot of stuff, but it never was "Berman's Trek" or something. But now it has become "Abrams' Trek". But then again, Benett, Meyer, Berman, Piller, and all the other people involved never declared themselves to be the "Supreme Court" of Star Trek.
