JJ Abrams should thow us a bone!

Star Trek XI or whatever its called should throw we "Enterprise" fans a bone with:

Kirk and the junior officers are commenting on Spock with Kirk saying..."It must be hard on Spock being the first Vulcan/Human hybrid-" and Zachary Quinto's Spock using his superior hearing interjecting- "No Lt. Kirk, Captain Lorian Jonathan Tucker of the Vulcan High Command and his sister Councilor T'Les Elizabeth Tucker are."

That phrase sounds too convulted, but you are right we should be given some sort of nod. I doubt it will happen though, since CBS, Paramount, Abrams and co. only want to focus on the Kirk era and nothing but the Kirk era.
Damn, I wish I could tell Abrams and his friends where he can stick his movie.

I'm not exactly enthusiastic about what I hear about the movie. Back on topic, if they were to throw in a nod to Enterprise, it'd have to be subtle and not obvious like the quote joncreed mentioned.

I am absolutely, positively thrilled there will not be some silly stuff done by JJ Abrams to "throw us a bone." That sounds rather nightmarish to me!!!

MattJC, I'm not exactly thrilled either.

Cute, "Lorian Jonathan", "T'Les Elizabeth". :)

But I wouldn't need anything even close to demonstrative. Just a subtle "little" nod like the mention of a name or ship or mission would be cool with me.

But I must say that I'm not exactly jumping up and down about all the stuff I've heard either, assuming that its true. But I am willing to wait and see before bashing.

Yeah, here's an idea:

*Kirk goes through the academy*
Bakula: Hey, Jim Kirk!
Kirk: Scott Bakula!
*they laugh, shake hands*
Kirk: So, how's life in the twenty-third century doing for ya?
Bakula: It's cool, it's cool. There are days I wish I never went to that cryogenics lab, though. Still, this being the future I get to bang hot alien chicks.
Kirk: (bored) Yeah, yeah. How is T'Pol?
Bakula: She left me for another woman.
Kirk: Ouch. I feel for you, man.
Bakula: Hey, you know, I had this really weird dream.
Kirk: (absent-mindedly) Uh-huh?
Bakula: I was like, Captain of the Enterpise. Jonathan Archer. And get this, it was the first one ever, called NX-01.
Kirk: (thinks) There's never been a Captain Archer of the Enterprise. Come to think of it, there's never been an NX-01.
Bakula: Yeah, it totally freaked me out. Well, bud, see you later.
Kirk: Later!
*Bakula strolls off*
Kirk: (ruefully) What a moron.

There's your bone, the marrow sucked dry. ;)

Hey, if they went with anything similar to my line then it would mean that piece of Amphibian Shit "TATV" was erased!

Anyway, I've read Karl Urban will play the Romulan villain; I like Karl and am PRAYING the Romulans will be the TOS version NOT the BermanBraga MoeHowardwithForehead version.

actually the romulans with ridges and the ones without both could be canon within tos since the majority of romulans are seen with the helmets.
and well i dont think we will get a real feel for the plot till sometime this winter.
that thing that is out was partly admitted speculation by someone .

but to the op..
either seeing tpol or hearing certain characters be mentioned would be nice.

As much as I enjoyed Enterprise, it gave TOS the finger on so many levels that TOS giving ENT a bone would be like sending some guy who burgled your house a Christmas card... Unless of course if the new movie is going to be just as unkind to that 60s that together ENT and the new movie are devious partners in crime belonging to the same support group for the murderers of my youthful optimism?

You're right Guy, gave TOS the finger for 3 seasons then decided to actually be a prequel to TOS in too-little-too-late Season 4. Oh well, at least "Enterprise" is doing well on Sci-Fi channel. Its not going to happen, but it would be nice if Paramount would give the series a nod in the big screen.

I'm always puzzled when that accusation comes up. Giving TOS the finger? Let's see... a shift in focus back to a main triad cast, at the expense of the supporting players. Name checking and even fleshing out several TOS aliens. Bringing back in your face, non PC sexuality to mostly prudeish critism. That just leaves the Vulcan issue. A race seen through human eyes, which while different from Spock, I'd argue are consistant with anything seen in Amok Time or Journey to Babel. Stubborn, prideful and more than a little arrogant to human outsiders. Oh and wasn't Admiral Forrest, and two other top brass from Broken Bow named in honour of De, Leonard and Bill? The rule of thumb with ENT seems to be throw enough shit and some of it's bound to stick. Just be sure to tell everyone you hated every minute of it (while secretly you didn't)...

Ignoring the source material though? No more than TNG did, in an effort to establish it's own identity I'd say. The natural approach for a prequel to the wider Trek universe, since it was 100 years off to be specifically important to Kirk and Spock.

As for Star Trek (2008), they should do something minor like a museum piece or cabin background set decoration. Enterprise is the only show they can realistically reference in that way. Anything 24th Century would be an anachronism. I doubt JJ Abrams and the other new boys are that franchise hardcore however, just whatever features in the pages of an outdated Concordance...

it may have given your perception of tos a bone but in reality the only significant thing is the romulan cloak.

tos violated its own canon and continuity so does it give itself the finger???

at least it didnt turn away from the tos aliens like tng did.
all we got of many tos aliens in tng was a passing mention or in the case of the andorians an image.
even the vulcans pretty much disappeared and one of the few was a terrorist part of a seperation movement almost like terra prine.

really it will depend if abrahms and the screnwriters even saw enterprise and how they felt about it.

and do you wish to clarify..
devious partners in crime belonging to the same support group for the murderers of my youthful optimism?
who are the support group???

I loved Enterprise from the start and feel we got hosed out of what would have been an awesome season 5 but think there would be a thermo nuclear meltdown on this board if there was a simple pic of the NX-01 crew at Starfleet if there was a scene there. I would love it though, maybe there will be an Andorian with the proper Enterprise makup.

Re: JJ Abrams should throw us a bone!

^ Online communities would go into meltdown? Hell, there's a reason to do it right there! ;)

And it's not as if that won't happen for some reason between now and Boxing Day '08 anyhow... My money's on the first leaked on-set photos.

If the worst aspect of the film is a cameo by an Enterprise character, I think we'll have all got off lightly.

Re: JJ Abrams should throw us a bone!

I am a huge TOS fan and really only liked some of ENT. However i think it would be a nice nod if somewhere there was an oil painting of an NX or mention of Earth's Starfleet prior to the establishment of the Federation.

*shrugs* Wouldn't bother me as on old Trek fan at all. I wasn't the least bit annoyed by the mention of a U.S.S. Archer in NEM. I actually thought it lended a bit of 'realism' and a dash of continuity to the film (which it needed! :p)

Nothing at all wrong with acknowledging those that came before you. Star Trek has always managed to do something of the sort in some manner in the shows and movies.

Because when it all comes down to it, no matter which show was our favorite, we are all fans of Sta Trek!

Here is to hoping :)

Re: JJ Abrams should throw us a bone!

I'd be surprised if there weren't some sort of allusion, even if it was something only The Fans would get -- particularly if little touches could be worked in to foreshadow 24th Century Trek as well. It's not as though such things couldn't be slipped in without making it substantially easier or harder to make a good movie, and why not take the nearly-free chance for some goodwill? It would be hard for the effort to cost more than it was worth.

If they do something this convoluted, non sequitur, and obnoxious, I'll pay you a million dollars.
