JJ Abrams should thow us a bone!

I actually asked the question most ENT fans probably wanted to...

Hi, Mr. Orci. The trailer echoes real exploration history (soundbytes from JFK, John Glenn and Neil Armstrong…) something you mention Star Trek Enterprise did. Can fans of Enterprise look forward to any nod to their series on screen in the film? Something as simple as an NX ship as set decoration or elaborate like a cameo. I know it doesn’t necessarily advance the kind of story you’re crafting, which is Original Series influenced, but handing over the baton is very much a tradition. An elderly McCoy sending TNG off, Picard on DS9, Cochrane’s video message to ENT etc. Somebody like an old Archer or T’Pol would be a nice link to the previous era.

and got this reply...

256 All signs point to “yes.”
Make of this answer, what you will. ;)

"Urge to kill fading....fading...."

I am so happy to hear that it appears they will be giving some sort of nod to Enterprise in the new film. :D

I did wonder whether his answer simply reflected Nimoy's presence in the film, but then I did specifically mention Enterprise. To be honest, if it's just an NX model sitting on an Academy Instuctor's desk, I'll be over the moon. Models of the International Space Station and a Daedalus class ship in Sisko's DS9 office come to mind. That kind of thing is usually an after thought by the prop department and don't figure in the mind of a scriptwriter though. Could a reply like this from Roberto Orci indicate something more planned?

I wouldn't mind some reference to previous successful or unsuccessful attempts at hybrid offspring. Since Spock was the only hybrid we were introduced to in TOS (?) yet by TNG/DS9 they were plentiful, presumably in Spock's time, it was still a rare enough thing to cause comment. Naming Lorien and Elizabeth are probably not necessary, just some reference to what was probably a lot of largely tragic attempts before Spock was born - and probably after, too.

Maybe it could be couched in terms of Spock's parents wanting to have more children, but after they lucked out once, that was it.

...and didn't this used to be in Trek XI?

Naming Elizabeth might be more appropriate than Lorien, since he was Alternate reality.
Personally I think we will probably see a small model of the enterprise NX01 somewhere or a picture of Archer up on the wall in Starfleet Headquarters. Trip did mention in rogue Planet that they had them hanging there.

Even if we get a small bone like this, It's still not enough for me to want to see the movie or even buy the DVD. It just looks more and more like a reboot to the franchise, which I don't think it needed.

I think it would be nice to have a mention of Elizabeth or some other nod to Enterprise would be nice.A ship's model or some other historical mention of their missions.

Bingo! Trip did indeed take a photo of Archer, so that Starfleet could make a portrait from it to hang at Starfleet. Perhaps something like that will be seen? The others in the gallery alongside it would probably be 'insider jokes', maybe likenesses of Gene Roddenberry, Gene L. Coon and Michael Piller. These kind of things on the whole go unnoticed, unless you're looking for it. The rest of the audience just won't be paying attention the background, they'll be too busy drooling over Chris Pine...

Anyone looking for either Scott Bakula or Jolene Blalock doing a cameo will probably be disappointed (and I guess you could include me in that too). In the timeframe of this movie, Archer would be so old he'd be unrecognisable. I can't frankly see Scott agreeing to several hours in make-up, being incased in latex for a minute onscreen. I also doubt T'Pol will appear, it might undermine Quinto's Spock being a unique or minority Vulcan at the Academy.

How about that? T'Pol could be some kind of teacher in Spock's youth on Vulcan! She wouldn't even have to be portrayed by Jolene Blalock. Just let us hear her name.

Re: JJ Abrams should throw us a bone!

Have Archer appear at the Enterprise's launch, older and confined a chair like crippled Pike had in TOS. (Have Pike say something like "I could never live like that.")

*beep* *beep*

Have someone mention the failure of the NX class ships.

Have scene where a drunken Scotty actually pisses on Tucker's grave.

I agree. After that encouraging nugget of information from Orci, I broke down and watched the trailer. There is no way this isn't a reboot. At least, Orci acknowledged Enterprise.
I'll give him points for that.

Yeah, because the franchise has been so healthy lately, right? After the way Nemesis and Enterprise tanked we're lucky they're making ANY Star Trek at this point.

Maybe they could name a part of the shipyard or an engineering facility after Trip. Or a classroom/hall at the Academy could bear Archer's name. T'Pol is in all likelihood still alive(about 170-180 years old by this point)so Blalock could do a quick throwaway cameo or something.

Abrams is the master of putting tiny little hints and nods to all sorts of things in his productions. Look at how Lost fans analyze every frame of every episode for various "hints" to the storyline, or the little moments in "Cloverfield" that aren't noticeable at first. So I wouldn't be shocked if we see all sorts of subtle Trek references in various spots in the film, and that certainly could include Enterprise.

What I don't think we'll see is the jarring "Look, wink wink, it's a reference to another Trek show!" type of scene that we've seen in the past. The Janeway cameo in Nemesis, for example, was just cringeworthy (Stewart practically said, "Look, it's Admiral Janeway! From Voyager! That other Star Trek TV show!")

I didn't really think it was that bad, in fact I kinda liked the cameo, but what really bothered me was Riker shouting "pattern KIRK epsilon" across the bridge. I just stood out as A NOD TO TOS AND KIRK YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT HE SAID KIRK DID YOU NOTICE KIRK KIRK KIRK KIRK!!!!! and took me way out of the movie.

This is a chance for a fresh start.

The movie doesn't need to mention anything specifically from the failure that was ENT.
