JJ Abrams leaving Star Trek for Star Wars

The point I guess is the perennial inferiority complex that Trek fans seem to have.

Star Trek fans just need to accept that—barring some incredible redo that hits on some new formula (and finally flushes mind-numbing technobabble down the loo)—the series is, in fact, niche, and will remain so. Star Wars hits much broader age and audience demographics by way of its swashbuckling adventure DNA.

3. STID had none of the good will and love that star trek 2009 got anD the film was met with its fair share of controversy that paramount is now making another soft reboot because they want a completely different direction from what into darkness was and they started by firing Orci.

Why I brought up into darkrness is because I personally feel the film killed the the good will and momentum of star trek 2009 and it is the last film in people's mind about anything star trek in the media and that is not that good of a thing because star trek'S biggest rival (star wars) is returning with a big bang that is about to blow up all things with the word star set in space.

I'm sorry but I cannot agree with this statement. Star Trek into Darkness outperformed it's predecessor to the tune of ninety million dollars worldwide, and was received critically just as well too, The only 'controversy' is that poxy poll at that convention, and a vocal minority of fans moaning about the fucking reactor scene or Khan's casting. I do not see anything here that has 'killed' any goodwill.

Also, I don't consider a change of director a 'soft reboot' either (whatever that means). This next film will be a direct sequel to STID with all the same cast and characters. It's just a change of director and writers, everything else remains the same.

I'm not some rabid JJ fanboy either, I like the new movies, yes, but I prefer the TOS films.

Dales, what's your topic, here?

Is it Abrams leaving Star Trek, as this paragraph and your misleading subject line suggest?

I fully understand why he did it. I would have loved to see him come back for star trek 3 and even repair some of the errors of star trek into darkness but I get he is no longer coming back.
The biggest problem with that as a topic is that it's wrong; he's still doing the job he was hired to do, all the way back in 2006. That he also opted in turn to direct each of the first two films is a separate matter. Your "but I get he is no longer coming back" is gratuitous drama, and also wrong.

Or is this the topic?
I remember long ago about 2 1/2 years ago Abrams said he had no interest in star wars 7 and wont direct it because he was loyal to star trek and because there will be too much pressure and he rather be the fan that he is than be the maker.
It, too, is inaccurate.

Or this?
so why the change of heart? I think it makes so much sense why Abram's left trek for wars. star wars is just too huge. the trailer has had like 88 million views in one day. its all everyone is talking about, its a massive pop culture event and the media and people all over the world are at the edge of their sits begging and eating up any little information about the film that Disney and JJ Abrams is releasing.

Or is it about power?
For a director like Abram it must be very fun to be the head of a film that is having that much impact on people and the world.

JJ Abrams is getting a unique power in film as the guy who is calling the shots of the biggest franchise ever and maybe the biggest film of all time come December 2017. a power he never had with star trek and this is why I believe he left star trek for star wars.

Or is the topic whatever it is you're trying to say here?
I don't know how I feel about it. I like both series but its like no one care Star Trek 3 is coming out anymore, its all about star wars now and even the ones that I speak to on IMDB about star trek 3 , all they talk about is how they hate star trek into darkness and how they have their expectations lowered for star trek 3 because they did not like star trek into darkness.

Or wait—power again?
For a guy like JJ Abrams it must be a relief for him that he is directing star wars 7 and not star trek 3. If Abrams was the director of Star Trek 3, I don't think Abrams would have been able to handled how star wars 7 is easily overshadowing all things star trek 3 especially when he was given the opportunity to direct star wars 7 but turned it down to make star trek 3. So Abrmas chose the franchise that gets the money, power, the cool factor, the popularity and attention and that is star wars.

And here, you've dropped all of those topics and delivered a conclusion which really has nothing to do with any of them:
Having said all this. I don't think star wars 7 will be as good as star trek 2009 but I think the film will be fantastic in its own rights.
Do you remember all of those times when I explained to you that the post which begins a thread should have ONE clear topic, and convey ONE clear direction in which you intend discussion to go? Do you remember any of those times?

Apparently you don't, because you've served up another rambling blog entry instead of a proper thread-opener. You've got several different topics, only loosely related to each other, and as for intended direction, there is none. Your follow-up post contains things like "please lets not pretend" and "we are talking of" and "us Star Trek fans" which hint at the idea of a conversation taking place, but you're still basically talking to no one but yourself.

Now, of course, as usually happens when there are too many topics and no clear direction, the thread is simultaneously about everything and nothing, and will go lurching along erratically this way and that, until someone puts it out of its confused misery.

Well, I guess that job falls to me.

Thread closed, and (for what feels like the hundredth time) get yourself a blog so you've got a place to put your unfocused rambling and made-up "facts". Don't start a thread this way again. TrekBBS is not your journal or your blog, and you need to stop trying to treat it as one.
