For those of you who don't know, Jerry Lawton is a UK "journalist" who works for the Daily Star newspaper - a tabloid rag that revels in its own trasheyness.
Last week, after finding a photoshopped GTA: Rothbury picture on the internet, Lawton wrote a story claiming that Rockstar Games was working on a game based on the recent Raoul Moat killings. He didn't check any facts, didn't contact Rockstar, and even went as far as to interview the family members of Moat's victims, in order to get some emotional quotes out of them.
On Monday, the Daily Star published an apology, admitting the story was false. However, this seems to have done nothing to curb Lawton's desire to ridicule gamers and the culture of gaming.
After he had been called on his ridiculous story, and after his employers had been forced to print an apology, Lawton still thinks that the best course of action is to insinuate that the gamers are the ones in the wrong. His last Facebook status, before he set his entire profile to Private, read:
I'm guessing the term "journalistic integrity" is lost on Mr Lawton. He seems to be oblivious to the fact that he was caught out, and is trying to deflect the blame onto the people who complained about his bullshit story.
Now, I know the Star is a rag, and we shouldn't expect too much from the "journalists" they employ, but am I the only one who is surprised that this guy is still employed by the Star, after being caught out like this?

"Baffled by the fury of adult gamers. These are grown (?!?) men who sit around all day playing computer games with one another who've today chosen to enter the real world just long enough to complain about my story slamming a Raoul Moat version of Grand Theft Auto! You would think I'd denied the Holocaust!!! Think I'll challenge them to a virtual reality duel....stab....I win!!!
