Hi there. Haven't been around here for... well... a long time, for various reasons. But I finally came back around to making some Trek-themed art. Hope you enjoy it.

First up: schematics of the Starship Pathfinder, from my fanfic series of the same name. :)

Many years ago I made a bunch of schematics for Star Trek ships. Recently I decided to try my hand at making a 3d model of one of them. Hope you like it. :)

U.E.D.F. Thetis / EDF-33
Delta-class Frigate

In 2122, the United Earth Defense Force adopted a "better, faster, cheaper" approach to constructing a new fleet of vessels to aid in controlling the local space of the Sol system. Instead of retrofitting huge, lumbering cargo vessels or building a small number of similarly-sized new ships, the decision was made to emulate the pirates who were ravaging the outer reaches of the system in the early decades of the 22nd century. A dozen ship classes were proposed which all shared the same core components, the rationale being that interchangeability would drastically cut both construction costs and repair times. Ultimately, seven classes of modular vessels were approved; the combined forty-three ships helped eliminate piracy in the Sol system by 2136.

The eight Delta-class frigates were typical of these vessels: a simple design, capable only of limited-range missions, and extremely durable. The decks were arranged along the vessel's horizontal axis - the direction the ship faced as also 'up' for the crew - with a ladder running the length of the ship through a central corridor providing access. Typical duties of the Delta-class ships included patrolling shipping lanes, escorting cargo ships, interdiction of suspected pirate strongholds and vessels, and search and rescue.

While easy to maintain and liked by their crews, these ships were also limited in their capabilities; the Delta-class ships could operate away from their home ports for a maximum of six weeks, with typical mission duration lasting less than half that. Power was provided by a sodium hydride fusion reactor; while excellent at providing high levels of power in the short term, these reactors ultimately proved too temperamental to serve as the primary power source for warp-capable ships. Standard armament included Spider area-defense missiles, Narwhal anti-ship missiles, and three pulse laser turrets; defense systems included polarized hull plating and a crude form of so-called 'stealth' technology, all of which gave these ships excellent defensive coverage against the weapons of the day.

The eight Delta-class ships served the UEDF well for almost twenty years. One was destroyed in battle with pirate forces, another when its primary reactor overloaded. The remainder were purchased by private and corporate parties to be converted into couriers or private explorers, and most survived into the early years of the twenty-third century.

Cool! Is that based on an existing design, or an original? Because it reminds me of some of the old FASA designs, but not quite.

Not bad. Any plans on releasing your own models and if so what format and where? they are worthy of being added to the existing models currently available

I'm not sure yet, to be honest - the models I've made are very crude and I'd like to try and do better before trying to release them publicly. The Klingon ship above is not my design - I found the model for free many years ago and no longer know who created it. :(

I have them same problem. CDs full of models from design school but no idea who they are from and models from extinct websites that can't be released without explicit permission.
