Jeopardy: The Greatest of All Time

I watched the first episode and I am recording the rest.
It was great to see three smart people competing to answer tough questions.
Looking forward to the rest of the shows.

I do have one big questions and can't seem to find an answer.
Why is this on ABC? This show has been a CBS staple for decades.
I've looked and looked and can't find a reason it's on a rival network.
Anyone got a clue?

Edit: It is produced by ABC and franchised by CBS.

Yeah, Disney owns both Jeopardy & Wheel of Fortune now, but I've no clue why it's airing the way it is though. I didn't even fully understand the tournament layout until tonight. It's the 1st to win 3 hour long matches of 2 games, is crowned the champ.

So if Ken wins the next night, (Tuesday next week) it's over. If James answers in a 2nd win, it goes on... & probably only 1 night more, as either he or Ken are likely to win the next night, over Brad winning ANY. It's like a World Series of Jeopardy, with a potential of 7 nights. It really is marathon, of both doubly lengthier games, AND multiple matches

However, like @tomalak301, I kind of feel bad for Brad too, but only in that it's kind of humiliating to be so outclassed. In truth, he was the best at one time, but time's have changed, & Ken has adapted. What bothers me is that the game play is being curtailed by him somehow managing to burn so many of the 1st three night's daily doubles. So many more points could go to Ken or James we're that not happening. So worse than just losing in a landslide, he's also holding the game back. He even said "You're Welcome" to Ken for that very thing tonight.

James actually got a little reckless tonight because of it, with some unsure buzzing in, which had consequences, in him losing more points than I'd ever seen him lose, just trying to stay in it. He'll need to reign that in.
He doesn't have the buzzer game, that's the biggest thing. Brad won a metric fuckton of money during his career on the show because he's basically a walking encyclopedia, but James is a robot from another universe with probably the best buzzer game in history and a wild willingness to do chaos betting (although he was oddly conservative tonight). Ken is playing defensively, which makes a certain amount of sense but he really is going to need to keep going big in order to counter-act James.

I'm still impressed by how good Ken's buzzer game has gotten, though.
He's really boned up on his game play, & it's showing. It's remarkable. I'm beginning to think he likely has the better knowledge base, but had he not altered his game play in buzzing & betting, he could easily have fallen to James already. So if Ken wins this, it'll be because he played with both the best accumulated knowledge, AND the best technique, which he had to adopt from James. So win or lose, this is a boon for James, as it's his technique winning the game either way, & in a way, Ken's title to lose. He made Ken a better player. That's saying something.

Ironically, James made a joke tonight about his prep being to study his competitor, Ken, who'd written many books on the subject, but ultimately, the result is that Ken's study of James technique is tipping the game in his favor so far. Basically, if Ken turns out to be the greatest, it'll be because he rose to a legit challenge. Heavyweight champs, both. We're basically witnessing the Ali vs. Frazier of Trivia masters, with a 3rd guy acting as an obstacle

This has been fun to watch. I'm usually pretty good at Jeopardy when I'm watching the normal show, but I have to admit a LOT of these questions are well beyond me. And the triple rhyming thing they did the first night? That was insane.

I can't manage any of those type categories, even though I usually do well in vocabulary ones. I expected to get nearly shut out with this caliber of topics, & while I am getting dwarfed handily, I'm actually surprising myself with upwards of a dozen right in any given game

They had some TV & movie stuff, even a pic of Ray Walston from his TNG appearance as Boothby. I also do exceptionally well at music history related categories, & some of that has crept in. I'm doing better than expected, especially considering how dang fast these guys are ring in

I think Ken Jennings would make a good host for Jeopardy when Alex retires. Ken is personable, funny, sharp, and he knows the game as well as anyone.

I'm wondering if that's what they're trying out in a sense. While I hope that Alex is able to stick around longer, he's still 79.

Watching Wheel of Fortune with Vanna hosting and Pat Sajak's daughter Maggie turning letters, I can't help but wonder if she might be a future Vanna replacement.

You know, people keep saying that, but I just don't see it. Nothing against Ken. He seems a decent enough fellow, & clearly a trivia master, but as a tv personality, he is kind of flat, & comes off a little snooty

I'd hope & expect that Vanna will stay there until Pat leaves, & after he does, the team will probably be done. As to his daughter's future, I can't say, but I'm betting the whole show will probably get tossed on its ear in some way. Kind of the way The Price is Right & Let's Make a Deal did. Someone will come along and they'll end up making it their own, & that'll have a lot to do with their personalities coming out in the roles, & while I liked Pat's daughter, she hasn't exactly been an explosion of personality, that screams to be made a permanent fixture

I'm also pretty confident in saying that while I like Vanna & think she's done a good job filling in, she really isn't personable & spontaneous enough to replace Pat in any kind of permanent way either. It's all been very antiseptic, like you'd expect when a spokesmodel hosts something, instead of a professional conversationalist. This whole experiment has actually made me realize just how well Pat manages impromptu dialog with the contestants. Even though I sometimes find him a bit condescending, he does have some legitimately top notch skill as a quick witted host

I was thinking maybe James could be a good host. One of the things I'm loving about this tournament is how "fun" it feels. Yeah they are out for the million but it feels like there is no pressure and it's a lot more casual than I thought.

As for where we are heading into match four, I think this is Ken's to lose, but it might come down to the rubber match on Wednesday. Still feel for Brad. He really has not chance at this.

James comes across as a jerk and plays like an asshole. If they made him the new host, that would pretty much guarantee my never watching Jeopardy again after Alex retires.

None of the three should host the show. Ken Jennings is a know it all prick with zero personality and James Holzhauer is one of the biggest assholes ever on TV who isn't a politician.

There are nearly 8 billion people on the planet, we can do a lot better with a new host.

However they would probably pick Ryan Seacrest. :barf:

They’ll probably go with an aging comedian who used to be risqué and now is not. That’s the trend nowadays. Drew Carey, Steve Harvey, etc.

I can't stand Steve Harvey, but at least he has personality. It's fake and lame but it's a TV personality.

Don't get me started on Drew Carey. I don't know who he was fucking to get that job. I think the powers that be are smarter than that for Jeopardy.

it's tricky, Jeopardy is a full time gig, so whoever gets the job, that's their career now. I'd put money on it being a woman.
