Why is this on ABC? This show has been a CBS staple for decades.
I've looked and looked and can't find a reason it's on a rival network.
Anyone got a clue?
Edit: It is produced by ABC and franchised by CBS.
Yeah, Disney owns both Jeopardy & Wheel of Fortune now, but I've no clue why it's airing the way it is though. I didn't even fully understand the tournament layout until tonight. It's the 1st to win 3 hour long matches of 2 games, is crowned the champ.
So if Ken wins the next night, (Tuesday next week) it's over. If James answers in a 2nd win, it goes on... & probably only 1 night more, as either he or Ken are likely to win the next night, over Brad winning ANY. It's like a World Series of Jeopardy, with a potential of 7 nights. It really is marathon, of both doubly lengthier games, AND multiple matches
However, like
@tomalak301, I kind of feel bad for Brad too, but only in that it's kind of humiliating to be so outclassed. In truth, he was the best at one time, but time's have changed, & Ken has adapted. What bothers me is that the game play is being curtailed by him somehow managing to burn so many of the 1st three night's daily doubles. So many more points could go to Ken or James we're that not happening. So worse than just losing in a landslide, he's also holding the game back. He even said "You're Welcome" to Ken for that very thing tonight.
James actually got a little reckless tonight because of it, with some unsure buzzing in, which had consequences, in him losing more points than I'd ever seen him lose, just trying to stay in it. He'll need to reign that in.
He doesn't have the buzzer game, that's the biggest thing. Brad won a metric fuckton of money during his career on the show because he's basically a walking encyclopedia, but James is a robot from another universe with probably the best buzzer game in history and a wild willingness to do chaos betting (although he was oddly conservative tonight). Ken is playing defensively, which makes a certain amount of sense but he really is going to need to keep going big in order to counter-act James.
I'm still impressed by how good Ken's buzzer game has gotten, though.
He's really boned up on his game play, & it's showing. It's remarkable. I'm beginning to think he likely has the better knowledge base, but had he not altered his game play in buzzing & betting, he could easily have fallen to James already. So if Ken wins this, it'll be because he played with both the best accumulated knowledge, AND the best technique, which he had to adopt from James. So win or lose, this is a boon for James, as it's his technique winning the game either way, & in a way, Ken's title to lose. He made Ken a better player. That's saying something.
Ironically, James made a joke tonight about his prep being to study his competitor, Ken, who'd written many books on the subject, but ultimately, the result is that Ken's study of James technique is tipping the game in his favor so far. Basically, if Ken turns out to be the greatest, it'll be because he rose to a legit challenge. Heavyweight champs, both. We're basically witnessing the Ali vs. Frazier of Trivia masters, with a 3rd guy acting as an obstacle
