Given that River Song is coming back for the Christmas Special, what are the chances of her continuing to stay in the TARDIS afterwards?
Probably slim. She's never been a mainstay so why start now. I would be more than okay if that happened though.

River's not going to be the next companion, Kingston's just too busy elsewhere to commit to a full series, and much as I'd love to see Craig (and family) back I think you'll find Corden has a pretty full schedule these days.

She will eventually. There will almost certainly be some lag, because of the comics' production times. Amy and Rory were in the comics for several months after their departure on television.

Maybe they might want to capitalize on the new companion, who might only be there for 4 months, or they might want to capitalize on the sad people miserable that they have been abandoned by Jenna.

Meanwhile if there is a gap between Clara buggering off and the new gal swanning in, that there is a sweet spot where they can insert a new imaginary companion not found on TV.
