Jenna leaving - next compnion ?

You do realize that those .Gifs are being used nastily?

"#### off and don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out."

Or...

"Ding Dong the Witch is dead!"

I suppose it could mean "Good job and congratulations!" but she just dumped Doctor Who like a meangirl.

Remember the last time you were dumped?

Sending 40 pizza's to their home address is the least they deserved.

Yes I do understand the context they were used in. I like them nonetheless.

I never really took to Sarah Jane*. I don't dislike her, I just don't find her very interesting. As for Clara, I do like her but I don't mind that Jenna is leaving. Change is interesting!

*HERETIC! :)
And she will have had an above average run.
in the end she will have had a much better character development than most companions. Not in the sense of having a shit ton of family characters attached to her, but in the sense of having a very turbulent relationship with the Doctor himself.
And she will have stayed on longer than all modern companions, beating Amy and Rose by a couple of episodes I think.

Do you think a series or two could survive having semi-regular companions? I wouldn't mind seeing Psi and Saibra back for a few episodes here and there.

I always thought "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" was an unusual episode in the Doctor just picks up random companions (Nefi and that big game hunter guy). Although I'm not too keen on the Doctor making companions out of actual figures from history, I think it would be pretty wild if on occasion he would pick up characters from the past, especially if he actually needed their expertise in the adventure. Could you imagine Capaldi picking up William Russell because he needed Ian's point of view?

The following could be applied to almost any thread , but given the "passionate" opinions about Clara, either positive or negative, I have to wonder what kind of reactions we have have read about "classic" era companions like Sarah Jane, Leela and the Romanas if the internet existed in the 70s. I mean, she's almost universally beloved now, even before Liz Sladen's untimely passing when the actress was riding another career high, but might we have read comments like, "I'm glad Sarah's leaving," if we had digital communities in the mid 70s?

Sincerely,

Bill

While Sarah Jane is a much beloved companion nowadays I'm sure there were people who were tired of her at the time.

No offense to Rory's character, but its time for a dominant male companion. This doctor isn't the romantic kind (we've had enough of that anyway) so no more young, good-looking women. On the other hand, an older smart and feisty woman like Big Finish's Evelyn Smythe would also work well with this Doctor (but maybe Missy is going to play this role this season - we'll see.)
How dominant? An in-charge sort? The last male companions like that were Ian and the Brigadier.

So...what road will we go down for the next permanent companion? An alien who is alone because of a ruined civilization and who finds a home and companionship in the TARDIS and a time lord who's also alone? Someone out of their time who gets to see technology beyond their wildest dreams (like Victorian Clara or Jackson Lake)?
Somebody from Downton Abbey. Anyone except Mary, 'cause it would be a case of the universe is ending, and all she would have to say would be "Golleh."

Just nobody from the 20th/21st century.

Actually, it would be nice to see the Doctor's daughter again, or maybe Susan. Since she's Gallifreyan, there's no need to have Carole Ann Ford play the part.

Whoever they get, please let them speakatanormalrateofspeed.

And...?

Honestly, the only way this news could have been better is if she were leaving at the beginning of the season instead of at the end.

The doctor travelling with a male companion would be something new (I know he has done it before but not for extended periods) and someone from the past/future would be a change, but really they just have to have personality and not be annoying.
Not for extended periods? Jamie McCrimmon, anyone?

I liked Sarah Jane as in "she's pleasant and fun" but not really one of the more interesting companions. She's often heralded as the first of the really independent, liberated companions (as in not merely being around to fetch the tea and scream), but that was only evident in the season she shared with the Third Doctor. She became more of a screamer with the Fourth Doctor, and a friend of mine has affectionately referred to her as "Scary Jane."

I don't think TV made people miserable that far back into in the past.

Started at 11 am, finished at 10 pm, and only 3 channels.

(Where I lived it was started at 6pm, stops at 9pm, and there was only one channel until the mid 70s.)

It was like a brief shot of heroin to make up for the rest of your crappy life.

No I think that would go to Amy and Rory. Or did she have a full year with matt smith.

Or at least the same amount of time as Amy did.

HA!

I felt that quote in my soul.

Not sure where it came from originally.

Until 10 seconds ago.

The last Christmas story was rewritten so that indecisive Jenna didn't have to bugger off after she begged to be let to bugger off.

Fool me once...

Arrow keeps stealing actors from Who.

Turnabout is fair play.

Put some feelers out.

Take some already.

:)

The candidates are...

Tommy Merlyn/Colin Donnell

Moira Queen/Susanna Thompson

Slade Wilson/Deathstroke/Manu Bennett

Kelly Hu/Chien Na Wei / China White.

Celina Jade/Shado.

Kevin Alejandro/Sebastian Blood / Brother Blood

Summer Glau/Isabel Rochev,

Bex Taylor-Klaus/Cindy a.k.a. "Sin"

Well, if she is leaving by or before the end of this season and The Doctor does find Galifrey then it would be nice to see him traveling with another Time Lord. I would second the desire to see him reunite with his grand daughter.

You haven't seen Happy Gilmore?

Of course, it was funnier 20 years ago, and it may not have aged well, so maybe it's not funny anymore, but it definitely was a creature of it's time, and hilarious back then.

Little Nicky will never not be funny.

Pixels, the new one, was fine.

"THAT'S YOUR HOME, BALL!! Are you too good for your home!?"

Back when Adam Sandler made good movies...

There was actually such a time?

Billy Madison
The Water Boy
Happy Gilmore
The Wedding Singer
Big Daddy
Mr. Deeds
Little Nicky
50 First Dates

Though I admit to liking Spanglish, Just Go With It, and Hotel Transylvania, just not as much as the titles mentioned above.

So the subconscious thinking on the table right now is Adam Sandler as a Companion.

You're all sick, and you need help.

If series 10 is scattered, limited, split, or specials, I could see the Doctor having different companions over the course of the series, much like Tennant's Series 4B specials.

But I like Clara. She's got a wit to her and can keep up with the Doctor. Also she bounces in nice ways in some outfits.

Sorry I thought it was fairly implicit that I was talking about the Doctor travelling solely with a male companion. Others will know better but the only occasions that come to mind are the Doctor and Adric in The Keeper of Traken (I know Nyssa was there but my understanding is that Sarah was just a guest star at the time rather than a potential new companion) or with Wilf in The End of Time. Obviously he was travelling alone Jamie at the start of Evil of the Daleks and The Wheel in space, with Adric at the start of Logopolis and with Turlough at the start of Planet of Fire, but in each case new, female, companions were introduced in those episodes.

Unless I'm missing something painfully obvious?
