Jenna leaving - next compnion ?

You do realize that those .Gifs are being used nastily?

"#### off and don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out."

Or...

"Ding Dong the Witch is dead!"

I suppose it could mean "Good job and congratulations!" but she just dumped Doctor Who like a meangirl.

Remember the last time you were dumped?

Sending 40 pizza's to their home address is the least they deserved.

Yes, I love Evelyn Smythe. I really wanted to see Maggie in NuWho, even if it wasn't as Evelyn or as a Full time Companion. I was heartbroken when she became too ill to act any longer. I would love to see The Doctor travelling with an older woman, but, of course for Demographics purposes they will want someone young as well.

I totally agree. I have been re-listening to some of her adventures and she really was very good.

It was very sad when she got ill and passed, she could have been great with Capaldi.

I like Jenna and Clara but I don't think she's been a great companion, certainly she doesn't dominate proceedings in the way that Catherine, Karen or even Arthur did and her character's been all over the shop. On the flipside she hasn't been annoying (apart from a few occasions in series 7b when certain writers clearly hadn't a clue what her personality was supposed to be).

As for the next companion, I wouldn't be averse to a Jamie/Zoe kinda team up, I think you can have too many characters in the Tardis sometimes though.

The doctor travelling with a male companion would be something new (I know he has done it before but not for extended periods) and someone from the past/future would be a change, but really they just have to have personality and not be annoying.

I'd quite like it if he took Jenny off adventuring but that's unlikely unless something bad were to happen to Vastra and Strax that freed her up.

Much as the notion of the Paternoster gang travelling with him appeals one one level, I know however much I love 'em that Strax would get annoying week in/week out.

I wouldn't be upset if Faye Marsey returned as Shona.

Is Frank Skinner busy?

I suspect he probably is between stand-up and Room 101, but I have to say it's an intriguing idea as I thought he was really good in Mummy on the Orient Express (though I'm not sure what his acting range would be like for a longer run which would probably be my only slight worry).

I'm now envisaging a put-upon female companion who effectively has to travel the universe with her two annoying dads...

Capaldi has said that he'd like someone on the show the Doctor could have a romance with (because Clara would be too icky) so maybe an extended visit by River or Missy is on the cards; at least for whatever form the 2016 episodes take.

I want it to rain men.

Somewhere, John Barrowman's ears just perked up a little.

I'd love to see Captain Jack make a return, but I think he tends to be more a caricature than a character to be a full time companion.

At least DW Captain Jack, as opposed to TW Captain Jack.

I like her, more so opposite Capaldi than Smith (for me Amy was always 'his' companion) but by the time she leaves, she'll have been the longest-serving companion of nuWho (not counting returns for guest appearances or the like), if memory serves me. So I'll miss her but I'll cope.

As far as I'm concerned, she should've left back in the Christmas special. I sure hope Moffat can top that (superb, it'd have been) originally-intended ending.

Also, when will we hear about Moffat leaving?

I thought the same thing about Billie Piper.

I wish Moffat had replaced her at christmas when the story and how it was heading seemed like a superb ending and fitting way to end the relationship. The last minute change hurt the christmas episode and now seems a little wasted when this year could of set up a new companion to give the show another fresh feel coming off Peter's first year.

In some ways I agree; I found Clara unpleasant in series 8. However, the ending of "Last Christmas" seemed to suggest happier, better centered character, so perhaps in series 9 we'll see the rehabilitation of Clara into someone who wants to be there.

I keep hoping...

The following could be applied to almost any thread , but given the "passionate" opinions about Clara, either positive or negative, I have to wonder what kind of reactions we have have read about "classic" era companions like Sarah Jane, Leela and the Romanas if the internet existed in the 70s. I mean, she's almost universally beloved now, even before Liz Sladen's untimely passing when the actress was riding another career high, but might we have read comments like, "I'm glad Sarah's leaving," if we had digital communities in the mid 70s?

Sincerely,

Bill

Those comments definitely would have been there. not because she deserved them, but because there is always going to be someone on the internet who doesn't like something, and will comment on it. That's not necessarily a bad thing (outside of trolls and stuff like that), I'm just saying that there is no such thing as a universally beloved character, and in cases like a companion leaving Doctor Who there will always be people happy to see them go and people who want them to stay, and I doubt that was any different in the past then it is now.

Like Kirk said, there's always gonna be haters, but, I think, for the most part, SarahJane was indeed mostly loved by everyone. Leela and the Romanas, maybe not quite as much

I never really took to Sarah Jane*. I don't dislike her, I just don't find her very interesting. As for Clara, I do like her but I don't mind that Jenna is leaving. Change is interesting!

*HERETIC! :)
