Jaws

Oh, I love Jaws. Arguably the first real proper blockbuster, ushering in a new style of cinema which has become what too many people consider cinema these days (but that is a debate for a different thread).

Jaws is in short: fucking fantastic. It's still a truly great movie, incredibly wellcrafteed, great characters and great lines in it, not to mention the fantastic score.

I showed about two years ago for my cousin and brother, who both had to see it. Both guys used to the modern Spielberg and modern blockbusters. Both were on the edge of their seat troughout the movie and both loved it.

Jaws is my favorite movie of all time. Yes there are plenty of other ones in my list I watch and love, but there is something about the whole of Jaws that makes it my top one.

Always a good one to watch when there isn't anything on.

"And it got right to my head...."

The three of them singing that is one of moviedom's greatest moments.

The bit I like in JAWS is when Quint, rather sheepishly, admits defeat in his fight against the shark, when he asks Hooper what exactly he can do with the technical doodads he's brought on board.

And rather than rub Quint's face in it, Hooper, realising the dangerous situation they find themselves in, simply explains it matter-of-factly, and they get to work on the cage together.

It's a nice scene.

It seemed to me that by that point Quint and Hooper had worked out their "working class vs. high class" differences -especially after the scar compaing/singing scene. So it was part admiting defeat to Bruce and part respecting Hooper and his doodads.

I also really like the dinner scene between Hooper, Brody and his wife.

Hooper brings a bottle of red and white wine (not knowing what they're having for dinner) and even though it looks to me like they're having chicken (White Wine) Brody opens the bottle of red and beings to pour, Hooper tried to inteject to let the wine breathe first, and Brody pours himself a tumbler almost completely full of wine and dispenses wine to Hooper and his wife more "appropriately." It's just such a nice scene showing, again, the "working class"-ness of Brody and the "higher-class"/"refinedness" of Hooper.
