I hope your source for that isn't Nichelle Nichols, because that story gets more elaborate every time it is told.
TOS had some progressive elements, true. But it's 50 years on, I'm hoping Discovery will be progressive by our standards, not those of 1966.

Progressive values of the 60s are very different (re: evolved)* from progressive values of the 21st century. I want DSC to look forward from the 21st century, not from 1966. Which isn't to say I don't love TOS (check the avatar) or its message. I just think DSC can go much further and be relevant to us today. There's no need to go back to the TOS well. We've been there. It's awesome. But I want DSC to be the next step in the franchise.
*EDIT: And by stating we've evolved in our values since the 1960's, I don't mean to say we don't have a long way to go still. Boy howdy do we have a looooong way to go. But that's basically what Star Trek is -- to show us what we're aiming for.

The original public story was MLK encouraged her to stay, she wanted to leave due to her extremely limited role. However in those ignorant days even her extremely limited role was an aspiration to folks like me, so MLK encouraged her to stay and be a role model.
Yeah I don't know if Star Trek has ever addressed privacy issues before. That could be cool. Personally I'm a bit indifferent to metadata collection, but I think it's a concern that could be good story material.

All I know is that if it were me working on a starship full-time, I'd want to be wearing the ENT jumpsuits -- comfortable, functional, flame-retardant (because I know a panel will explode in my face at some point) and pockets and zippers galore. I would hate to have to wear the Monster Maroons all day. They look dreadfully uncomfortable.
